Hello all


I've searched like crazy and can't find a proper answer to my question and was hoping you guys might shed light on it


I see everywhere that using the external method (tsop programmer) that a 79FL can be reverted to 79FK so that a passkey is no longer required.

My questions is, can that be done using the passkey? I mean my passkey is installed and working perfectly and I got my drive key and key location (xxxx) already, why cant I open a 78.xxxx original F/W (included with 360 firmware toolbox)and replace the key, use smart patcher to hack it and then spoof it to 79 and flash it?

wouldn't  that technically make it so that I no longer have to use the passkey in the future? as it is reverted to 78 F/W (spoofed to 79) and can just be put into mode b and flashed with toolbox

PLEASE help!!

Nope, downgrade can only be done with an external programmer. Someone much cleverer than me will be able to tell you why.

you need to flash your drive with a 78 firmware and spoof it to a 79

Dam, But yeah I hope someone can explain why, I looked at the tutorials and the end result was the same 256kb file only difference I saw was the one from the external programmer is encrypted.

and hypothetically speaking what would happened if I flashed it with a 78 spoofed F/W? Brick? or Ban?

I read that, and that is actually what got me confused, the tut says you can do it with the external programmer, my question is can it be done just using the passkey and if not, why?

if you have got the passkey installed then you should be able to do it .

From what I understand, the software method to flash the hitatchi has to be a differential patch because the entire firmware can not be written in one shot without bricking (thus putting 78 firmware would not work out so well.)

I haven't tried it yet, but there is apparently a way to do a small patch to orig.bin that will let slax put the drive into modeb with read/write capability. I had hoped to have a way to pull that chip off by now so I could test it out safely, but that just hasn't happened.
