Where Is The Key Code Stored On A Drive?
« on: March 25, 2008, 12:55:00 PM »

Hey,

Could some1 tell me where abouts on the drive the keycode is stored.

Basicly my hitachi 78 drive stopped spinning up discs. My friend had a old xbox and gave me his drive (hitachi 78 also) so i had the amazing idea of swapping drives  so all i did was take the circuit board out of my mates drive and put it into mine (the board in the hitachi drive where u would solder to hard flash a drive)

i put it in my xbox and plays dvd movies but not xbox games.

So guessing the key code isnt stored on that board so where is it stored?

thanks

its stored in the tsop on the board you can't put someone elses board into your drive because then its got the wrong key in it
try putting your board into he's drive and put that into your 360

i did that i put my board into his drive (his works) and put his drive in my xbox. so surely the only difference is the mechanics i.e laser.

is there a guide to remove the laser. i will remove laser and put his laser in my old drive with my board in

That should work just fine. When you swapped the boards your drive key and firmware is not in his drive that you are using in your 360. There should be no problem playing games.

Unless there is something wrong with your circuit board.

78's using rolling code, never in one specific place!

keycode is on your board in the tsop
if the drive from your m8 worked then swopping your board into it should work also
if he's drive worked that would pretty much rule out the laser

your original post stated that you put HIS board into YOUR drive then into YOUR 360. that would mean the board has HIS key stored on it. you need to put YOUR board in HIS drive into YOUR 360 for it to work. dont get the boards mixed up either
