Help With Hitachi 78 Drive , Mode B Problem
« on: March 24, 2008, 04:48:00 PM »

Ok i have managed to flash quite a few drives before including the hitachi 78. I am using a via VT6421A raid controller and can read other drives fine using this same card.

I run the slax cd to try and get the drive into mode b and it doesnt work , as the drive has been flashed previously though I got the drive into mode b by pulling the power dord out with the drive tray ejected.. and yes the drive goes into mode b:) , however windows will not recognise the drive and i get an exclamation mark through my raid controller in device manager ?? If i disconnect the drive and go back into device manager the raid controller is fine?

Anyone know what could be causing this? As i say the drive is in mode b but causes an exlamation mark in device manager and the drive is not recognised?

Thanks for any help (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

sound like the drive is not in modeb properly, could have been a bad flash first time around.
i can not flash a 78 with my via sata card a have to use my onboard intel ICH5 chipset
which version of the slax disc did you use?

i can't flash one of these with my via card either and have to use the onboard
a little trick i use sometimes that works for me is to turn the drive on and let it reconise in bios then turn it off
then i boot from dvd and turn the drive back on when the writing starts to scroll down the screen

defo sounds like drive not in modeb proper make sure it has a drive letter in computer managment these drives sometimes look like they in modeb but like you say you have the xclamation ark which tells me either your sata drivers are incorrect or drive not in modeb proper

sounds like a RAID problem. i suggest you get the 6241L, RAID is for HDD's only. ODD's will only give you problems

Do you have any virtual drives on that machine?

ok thanks for your help so far guys (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ive managed to get the drive recognised in windows looks like it was an irq conflict. Only now 360 toolbox comes up with error "not all variables were resolved , cannot continue"

It will do a raw dump and gives me the drive key but will not patch firmware. The firmware on the drive at the moment is  XTRM:MAX:78:V1.6 , im looking to spoof the drive to an ms28 do i need to patch the firmware or can i just spoof the drive with my ms28 drive key?

ps : no virtual drives installed .

So you wanna put the 78 into the xbox, with the Samsung Key?

You can just replace the key and spoof as an MS28, then flash that file.

Itll then be a Hitachi 78, With Xtreme 1.6 Spoofed as a Samsung MS28

BEFORE FLASHING

It should only flash 2 sectors IIRC

One for the drive String
One for the Drive Key.
