Are There Unmoddable Benq Drives ?
« on: March 23, 2008, 09:46:00 PM »

because I got one today and I couldnt dump the firmware at all. tried dos16 and dosflash32 in windows but no luck whatsoever. it always hangs on Ox7f. its brand new and the date on the drive itself says jan2008. Ive done many benq drives before so its not like I have the wrong port # or incompatible sata card. my setup is via6421 card and dosflash 16. worked perfect everytime I tried before.

anyone has anything on this ?? here are some info from the sticker(if it helps at all)
model VAD6038
jan 2008
HW VER JDA1a4
FW 64930c

This should solve your problem. Detach EVERY disc drive and EVERY hard drive from your mother board. Then make sure you connect your 360 to the right port then you should be fine.

Modding mine was a bitch.

If it weren't because I work fixing computers I could have never have flashed it.

My Intel 945 detected it, but couldn't do notthing. After two days trying I found an AMD Processor PC with Nvidia and it worked (dosflash32)

Mine was Jan 2008 too, manufactured on Jan 30th 2008.

I've modded many benq's even brand new ones (februari 2008) and they're all a 2 minute job (maybe even less) So i doubt there are unmoddable benq's

I am 100% convinced there are SOME benqs that dont work at all. I had a refurbished system today and it always hangs on 0x00 when I tried dumping the firmware. Ive tried EVERYTHING there is to try. I am gonna go ahead and give up on benqs. it was fun while it lasted..dont think I care anymore !

hmm..so are you guys all using iprep ? this may sound silly but could a video card have anything to do with this at all ? I upgraded my video card recently thats it lol..and actually havent done a benq yet after the upgrade. this wouldnt make any sense if a video card has something to do with it but I will DEF try again.

also did things just work out for you guys right away ? like you didnt have to try more than once to dump the firmware and what not(like how samsung 28 sometimes doesnt work but you keep trying and eventually it dumps/flashs)

Just done a Benq this morning (manf: Feb 2008) using iPrep.

Wouldnt have thought it was your graphics card.

Are you using onboard SATA method or have you fitted a PCI card?

i don't use iprep i use extrmebootmaker
i took the time to make the batchfiles and it works first time every time, i never tried iprep because this works so theres no need to fix it
can't see vid card drivers hurting anything

what chipset are you using?  I use my onboard nforce.  I tried using my via6421 one time and it kept hanging, so I just use my onboard.

After flashing others as well I have had one for about 2 weeks as well that I can not do for nothing in the world.I have a Nforce4 board on 1 (MSI Neo-4)pc and a via board on the other(Abit av-8). It is seen in the bios, I can't see it Xp or vista so I can't use Iprep or dos32. I can see it in dosflash 16 and I get a sucessful read but it does not go through the banks so I consider it a false read. I didn't take a chance of flashing at that stage and I went and ordered the via 6421 pci card and I hope it helps. As far as the video card , the only possible thing that might cause a conflict is if the irq being used by the card is the same as the one being used for the sata port but I think the bios would not allow for such.
