using 360fwtoolbox can spoof firmware, but does not do it automatically. this is using iPrep for a samsung. before copying the DVD key, it detects if the firmware needs to be spoofed and asks accordingly.

i would suggest using the batch files over 360fwtoolbox

using iPrep is an automated batch file, MTKflash commands are using a batch file etc 'mtkflash r/ w orig.bin'

but the batch files i was talking about were to do with spoofing, not firmware flashing

You dont need to spoof in this case as it's an upgrade. The fw you will be using will have firmgaurd anyway so if microsoft ever figue out how to dump the 25 they would be wonderin why a drive that reports as a 25 has firmgaurd?

iXtreme is the most current firmware available, there are no issues with it.

there is no need for you to open the firmware in 360fwtoolbox. when iPrep is used to dump the drive, it will ask if you want to spoof it or not. say yes and then it is ready to be flashed to the new drive.

Bit of confusing not 100% true posts above.

iPrep only prepares your bootable device.

FirmTool copies drive key and string.

I dont use it, but Im sure after dumping firmware, it auto runs ad if drive string doesnt match it asks if you want to spoof.

If so, select what you want to spoof as.

This will copy the key and create a sam-CFW.bin in the /backups/1234567/12345/ directory.

Then just use fsam 1234567 12345 to flash the drive.

1234567 12345 being the serial you used

if the problem with the ms25 is not the board then
just put the ms25 board into the ms28
otherwise you need the key of the ms25 if the board is damaged then you need to usolder the firmware chip and have it reprogramed

I do believe it's just the laser dying on the ms25 because I keep getting the dirt disc error but when I leave the Xbox 360 off for an hour it will work again.

Will swapping the board work? I haven't seen any guides or it being mentioned anywhere. Do you have a guide for doing this?

Just a quick update, I took your advice and changed the PCB in the dvd drive and it worked a treat. Now all my games loads perfectly ... much easier than trying to spoof my drive.
