I ask my friend to flash my hitachi 79 drive with passkey. After he had finish flashing he remove the passkey. can i flash the drive now firmware without the passkey?

no, u have to leave the connector in so u can plug ur modchip every time u want to upgrade the fw

To achieve this you need to flash the firmware with an extenal programmer.... When you do it this way you can use 78 firmware spoofed as 79.... Once it's a 78 you can flash it using software without a paskey....

Can you do this after you get a passkey chip installed?

if the drive is flashed with a hacked firmware you can use the modeb trick (power the drive while the tray is out) and you can flash it from there.
