You know.. with someone with such a small amount of posts I can only hope they werent as completely retarded as this one, but I know better.
As I searched and couldn't find a clear answer I did something unheard of and asked for others opinions on the matter, and as you have seen by my amount of posts this is something I have done for others. That is what a forum is.
If you plan on contributing retarded posts like the one above you are not only a complete waste of an account for this forum but also a burden to the rest of us when we do a search on a topic and have to route through useless posts like yours.
Ive been tryin with the ICH9 and so far no joy. Ive searched everywhere and no-one seems to have this chipset, apart from us (IMG:
style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Nowhere does it say that it ISNT compatible, just that no-one seems to have tried it yet. In the Dosflash NFO file you`ll see that ICH5,6,7, & 8 chipsets are compatible, so I can only assume it should be OK.
As ZprivateZ points out, can`t do a softmod - has to be one of the soldering tricks, else you get the problem you already have. Try googling the "textbook" method for a tutorial if you aint already.
Ive taken my drive apart and cut the 2 tracks, now im jus waiting to get chance to try it again (its a friends comp as mine doesnt have any SATA).
Other than soldering, you can softflash by buying a SATA PCI card with a VIA or NFORCE4 chipset and selecting that in Iprep.
Don't know how much of that you already knew, but there it is anyway.
If you get chance to do it before me, let us know how you get on. Ill do the same.
Best of luck!
Yeah thats exactly what I was doing , all the documentation stops at ICH8.
I just did a hitachi 78 drive which also only lists up to ICH8 with my ICH9 without any issues eventually.
So I was just trying to get a clear answer or any possible tricks you might have to do as there were a couple I had to do for the 78 drive to work.
Now I can purchase the VIA controller knowing its completely nessary, thanks for your input.
