Serious Issues With Benq Drive
« on: February 05, 2008, 11:43:00 PM »

Someone please help me.  I just got a third xbox 360.  It has a benq drive in it.  I used Iprep and this firmware Benq iXtreme v1.41.  I did everything I was supposed to and everything went ok.  I flashed the system but it wouldn't read any games after.  Nothing.....original or backup.  So I hooked it back up to the computer and tried to re-flash it with the same firmware.  I guess that was a big mistake.  Now the xbox won't boot to the main screen. And the fans on the system are going crazy! They are spinning really fast.  But nothing is coming out it anymore.  What did I do?  Did I just kill this xbox?  Please, any help would be great.  Oh yea when I tried to re flash it is when the fans started going nuts and It gave me two red rings.  I couldn't turn the system off so I had to pull the plug.  Then when I restarted it it won;t do anything but spin the fans really fast.  No red rings though when I turn it on.

Guys I'm a partial fool.  I took the fan casing off and forgot to put it back on.  Thats the reason for the fans.  As for the screen the tv I have near the computer is not HD and I forgot to change the video wires.  I'm stupid....but the drive is still not playing anything.  No backups or regular games.  Is there a way to go back to my original firmware?  I'm not sure what I did wrong.  Can anyone shoot me some advice?  Thanks

I might have just found out what I did.  I think I picked stealth when  made the firmware with iprep.  I was supposed to pick a speed.  Could that be it?  I remade the firmware with 8x speed.  Just wanted to make sure I can reflash it with that now.  Do I just read the firmware again and reflas it with this one?  Sorry so many posts.  Kinda freaking out.

When you ran iprep and flashed the custom firmware, did you erase the flash drive, or is it still set up from the first flash?

If it is, then you might be in luck.  Using iprep, you have the ability to flash the original firmware back onto the drive.

Shut down your pc, hook the benq drive up to the computer as normal, and load up iprep. When you get to the screen where it asks you to type in fben 1234567 12345, instead type in rben 1234567 12345 (type in the serial number of your console).  If you backed up the flash right the first time you ran iprep to flash the drive, you should now have the ability to erase the drive and start again.  Just follow the prompts from here, and hopefully you can bring it back to life.

A tip:  When iprep asks you to turn the drive off and then press any key to continue, instead shut the drive off, power it back on, and then press any key to continue.  If you don't do this, iprep will send the instructions to flash the drive prematurely, and it will not flash properly.

Good luck!

Well Im sure I have bad news.  When I was panicking about this whole thing.  I acidentally over wrote the floppy I had with the original firmware on it.  I made a new disk in iprep for the 8x and by mistake it formatted it before I backed it up.  Can I get the original firmware somewhere?  The key should still be in the firmware I have installed now right?  Couldnt I read the firmware again get the key and inject it into the orig firmware if I can find it?  Ir could I just read the firmware I have on there now and inject the key into the 8x one I made?  Thanks again for your help

If the key was in the firmware on there right now, it would be playing games, wouldn't it?

You trashed your 360 by (a) not understanding what you were doing before you started, and ((IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) going full-speed ahead after getting in trouble without waiting for replies.

You were probably still ok until you reran iPrep and formatted the floppy where your orig.bin would have been.  Another victim of iPrep, add your name to the "wall of shame" my friend.

Thats my point.  I know I read the firmware correctly....the only thing I could have possibly done wrong was flash it with the non stealth firmware.  Everything went according to the tutorial,  It just didn't play games.  But I went back in to iprep and got the key for my drive.  I've seen online if it has a bunch of 7's its not the original key.  But I have a  string of 32 characters that says its my drive key.  Does that sound correct?  Are they that long?  And if it sounds right where can I find the orig benq firm to put it back in?

What error do you get... If it's 'Insert this disk in a 360 to Play', then you have your keys wrong....
