Non-solder Solution For Hitachi 79
« on: February 02, 2008, 11:52:00 PM »

The suspense is killing me.

Has anyone heard of any rumors regarding a non solder method for this drive yet?

Screw that PassKey crap. Not all of us have the know-how to do that kinda thing. I thought I read something about 'direct dump/flash of 79 drives' being a top prioity in the next release of Firmware Toolbox.

Anyone got a clue how this is turning out?

If it requires soldering (and it does) then its of no use to me. Even if I knew how to solder or knew of someone to do it for me, I would still not use this method.

And if that is the only way to get the job done, then the job will not get done. Ever.

Thanks for the reply tho. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

currently there is no software method of getting the drive in modeb, so you wont be able to flash it thru software only until that is figured out.

for right now the only option for flashing the 79 without (you) having to solder would be if someone flashed it for you or i can revert it to a 78 so you can flash it yourself, pm me if your interested.

Bubbalynch, just to clear up last post.... A 79 will go into Mode B using Slax, there are plenty threads here to back this up... The Passkey is required to dump and flash the firmware. A bonus feature of Passkey is to put the drive in Mode B if stock firmware is detected..

Same here dude, and we are not alone!

Anyways, take a look at this thread and the post by rimom on the top of page two:

Have you tried his method?

I'm gonna give it a try and will let you know.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yeah I wish their was a method of flashing the drive without the passkey.  I am thinking that I might eventually just send my drive to someone and have them pull the TSOP out and reflash it with v78 firmware.  Seems that is the best method I think.

I wish their was an update though on if they have had any success with reading the flash and dumping to it.

I'd be happy with just having the ability to 'read' the firmware.

That way I could get the drive key and spoof my 47dj as the 79fl and leave the 79fl alone.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

passkey has nothing to do with getting drive into mode B you can get all 79 drives into mode B with slax cd just like any hitachi drive. the passkey is to defeat the protection on drive to allow it to flash.

But I will deffinatly be getting in contact with you regarding this in the very near future.
