XBC 2.8 Build 275:
-Added support for BenQ VAD6038 0800 firmware
(Note: This has had limited testing, be cautious)

The 0800 Release is a firmware replacment for the BenQ VAD6038 drive to allow you to backup your own games. It is, as always, not for use on xbox live.

wait so let me get this straight...you can flash your regular 360 BenQ drive with this FW and it is then able to backup games? I don't get it, how does this work? Sorry if I am wrong, I have experience flashing drives to play backups but never learned anything about drives that back games up. Thanks.

This makes the drive detectable in Windows. That way you can use it with XBC or Schtrom. This has been available since the launch of the very first Xtreme firmware, except only for the Samsung. So now you can use either the Samsung or Benq drive. I picked up a Samsung off eBay back when it was announced that the Kreon drives were making bad backups, flashed it with the 0800 firmware, and leave it attached to my pc.

By Samsung, I mean the Samsung 360 drive... not the Samsung pc drive. Oh yea... it was also cheaper to pick up a 360 drive than the Samsung pc drive.

My understanding is that you can flash your 360 DVD drive with this firmware, then hook the DVD drive up to your computer and use xbox backup creator (or software of choice) to backup your games to an iso file on your PC.
You would then need to burn the resultant iso onto a Dual Layer DVD and put that in your 360 to play the backup and keep your original disc away from harm.

There is also a standard PC DVD-ROM drive from samsung that you can apply a (different) bios flash to and do the same thing.

The only problem is I believe that if using your 360 DVD drive, you have to flash it back again or your 360 won't work. so the best option would be to have two DVD drives, one permanently in your PC to do your backups (either a spare 360 drive or a samsung or whatever), and the other stays in your 360.

I could be wrong though...

Yeah sorry the the Xbox Connect gyuys.. my bad..

The benq 0800 fw is only for use in the pc. It was safer to treat this as a seretare version from the iXtreme.

I believe the drive key will not matter for this utility.

The Benq0800 firmware will make full iso's equivalent to the TS-H943A 5.3 firmware, PFI, DMI, SS and video.

So I flashed the benq with the 0800 firmware, it's detected in windows, i insert my forza2 game, i open XBC, and on the read tab it says this is not a true 1 for 1 copy of the image.

what do i have to to do back this game up?

Just select "Complete Backup" the other text only refers to xbox 1 and using the "sector mapper"

so far i've found out you need to hit the "unlock drive" button under drive tools twice and then you can read "current partition" but if you hit "complete backup" it gives you an error "Unable to determine the current visible partition" and "read failed". if you click "current partition" you have to go through this whole other process of merging the created .iso with the dmi,ss,and pfi files. and then when you check the stealth status of the image it says failed due to video section. i guess you can also merge the video section with schtrom but schtrom doesn't support the benq drive firmware.

it would be just so easy if you could read the disc as a complete backup.

New note... if you select SPTI and then unlock twice then select ASPI then read complete backup you get "the disc seems to be unlocked allready. by continuing the video section will be filled with empty data and will not be stealth compatable. Do you want to continue?" if you select ASPI and then try unlocking it doesn't seem to work.
