Hey all,
Slight Problem, but before I ask, a little bit of info for you.
I got premium Xbox 360, manufaturing date 2006/2/22
DVD Drive is a TS-H943 Toshiba Samsung with Firmware of MS25
I also mention now....that i've not hacked it....in anyway other than casing. So I have not flashed my 360, nor do I want to
As you could have guessed, i eventually got the old open tray problem.
But I think it had to do with the fact that I used the Nyko Intercooler, since after selling it, the problems started. I used it for like a month.....maybe a few days short of.
*For those of you who don't know, the ones that piggyback power via being connected to the back of the xbox 360.
Tray would start to not open up, had to slightly tap the door so it would.
This did'nt bug me for a while, let it slide.
It was'nt until maybe three to four months ago I began using my xbox 360 to play backups of DVD movies
*will not go into details of this, the rules say about 360 game piracy, but I'm going to extend this to Movies as well
Incase your wondering, the backup format was DVD....in other words,...it was'nt avi, or mpeg, it was DVD format.
After that.....i mean literally after testing out the movie backup, i tried putting in a game, and noticed for the first time, the infamous "To play this disc, place it in an xbox 360 console" message.
After cleaning my pants from having crapped them, you know, cause for a second there I thought I got the RROD, went back to dashboard, opened tray, and closed it, and the game loaded fine.
Was'nt worried as it showed up maybe....1/100 in other words rare.
However, i did get the cannot read disc, more frequently, about 1 in 15.
About two weeks after game, "The Orange Box" came out, I decided to do a smart ass thing out of boredom, and placed it in my Laptop to try and create an ISO file.
Obviously gave me an error that it could not be performed, etc, etc, etc.
Well immediately, I tried to play the game and it gave me the "to play this game" message.
Evnetually got it to work after ejecting and closing the tray a few times.
The problem became more persistent after that.
Not to mention, that I began using my 360 to play backup movies, and original movies.
Reading Discs became more and more difficult, eventually leading me to perform the rubber band trick.
FYI IT WORKS !!!!!! It definetly fixed my tray problem
The one thing that still ticks me, is that it still give me the error message, although fewed times now. Very Few, now the "Orange Box" loads up on the first try sometimes.
I'm hoping that maybe with the tray being fixed, the laser issue is somewhat fixing itself, it that is even probable.
However, and heres where the question comes in.
I've read that you can replace just the laser....but something about sodering....and then flashing the drive anyway so the rest up the system will read it better and some junk....
Clearly not a way I want to go, So the question is this...
If i decide to change the laser.....
Could I not purchase another Xbox 360 Toshiba Samsung drive that is MS25, even one with RROD or simply a Bricked Drive, then simply by disassembling the drive, swap the laser and the rails from the purchased drive to the crappy faulty laser drive ?
kind of like plug and play....or would i still have to do some sort of flashing or sodering ?
