My 360 W/ A Benq Died. Got A Replacement 360 W/ A 79
« on: January 14, 2008, 06:29:00 PM »

Hey guys, I am not new to flashing or 360 modding so I'd appreciate some help.

I have a 360 with a BenQ that recently died (purple lines all over the screen). A friend of mine sold me his 360. He has a Hitachi 79 drive which as we all know sucks to mod. I have the BenQ firmware backed up. Is that all I need to use this BenQ on his Hitachi 79 360?

If so, can someone point me to a decent guide saying how to use this BenQ drive on that system? Again, the original firmware for the BenQ is safely backed up. I tried searching here but the search function is all wacky (says 4 pages found but nothing shows up).

Thanks guys!

You want to replace the Hitachi 79 with the BenQ?

You will need to install a Passkey chip into the 79 drive to extract the firmware so you can get the drive key.

Then you will need to inject this drive key into the BenQ firmware and spoof it as a Hitachi 79 before flashing it to the BenQ drive.

Ah, if to use this BenQ in that 360 I'd have to get the chip it would be pointless. I figured since i had the BenQ firmware I could use that. Nevermind then and thanks anyway (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Each console has a unique key on the motherboard that must match with the key on the DVD drive. If this key does not match it wont load any games. Since they key one the BenQ drive you have is not for the console you want to use it on it wont work.

Yeah what sucks is it's so easy to get the key from the BenQ and near impossible for the Hitachi (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
