Today I was trying to upgrade from 1.2 to 1.4 on my Hitachi 78fk drive. I was using the latest 360 firmware toolbox...and while reloading the original firmware, the computer froze and the flashing gave an error. Now the xbox will not eject teh dvd drive, the middle green light continues to flash rapidly, and the bottom right light is now red.

Do I need to get another dvd drive, and spoof the key on to that one, or could this drive be recovered? I have the original firmware for the drive taht I now believe is bricked.

yes. your drive is bricked. you can get another drive and spoof it or send your drive to someone with a programer and have them redo the Firmware directly from the chip and they can make your 78 drive into what ever Hitachi Model you want. Also you may be able to get Chillfix and it might fix it. more hassel though.

you could remove the tssop flash it with a programmer

can I get any model drive, or does it have to be a Hitachi? and I haven't come across the documentation for spoofing to another drive, the one in the faq always gives me an error when trying to download it; do you know where I may find some?

it gives details on spoofing in the section for the hitachi 79 using the external programmer.....

It also gives you a tutorial to desolder the flash chip and program it....
