No Dvd Drive Ejecting With My Board
« on: January 05, 2008, 12:43:00 PM »

i did something to my xbox360 board, while firmware hacking. Original hitachi dvd rom bricked, and i replaced it with a new Samsung drive.

Then i tried it, it does not seem to work. PC sees the drive, mtkflash flashes it but Eject button does not work.

I spoofed the drive and flashed it does not work. It is a brand new samsung ms28.

Then i took the drive of my friends 3R  dead Xbox360 's  Samsung Ms25, and hit the eject button , it does not work either.

I guess there is somethig with the mainboard, what should i do?

Xbox360 boots fine, there is no problem just dvd does not work....

Did you try to open the tray via software (eg. press "tray open" in the dashboard). Sounds like your eject button is damaged.

Hey Antiochos could you elaborate on flashing the Hitachi so we will understand a little better of what went wrong?  What version Hitachi and the software used to setup your floppy or thumb drive.  It sounds to me like you have corrupted your firmware which holds the key that is married to your motherboard.  You may have to try and flash back to the ORIG.BIN on the Hitachi before everything turns back normal. Keep trying until you get that drive flashed back to it original state.  Is the Hitachi drive powering on or what?

You did inject the Hitachi drive key into the Samsung right? You do have a backup of your original Hitachi firmware?

it's bricked.. otherwise known as stuck in `Recovery Mode'.

You need to have someone remove the flashchip off the DVD controller
board and flash it in a programmer..

I should have my programmer in within the next few days which will enable me
to repair bricked Hitachi drives from anyone who needs the service done..

But if he does not have the original drive key and if the current key on the drive is missing or corrupt there still wont be much that can be done.

Well your best bet is to inject the original key into another drive and spoof so you can try that drive.  There shouldn't be any problems after setting up another drive with that key from the old drive.  Plese post your findings after you have successfully flashed.

Based off of what you have said, i have to agree with your friend.  If your sammy doesnt eject with that 360 motherboard, then the southbridge may be the problem.

How did you put the Hitachi into modeb?   Two wire method?  Could you have put the dvd power into the Hitachi drive upside down?

If you've truely burnt the tray status lead from the south bridge, then no, it likely can't be fixed.  I havent done a whole lot of research on the subject but I have a board that has exactly the same issue.  Hitachi was put in modeB using the two wire method.  The two wires were put into the wrong pin placement and it burnt leads on both the Hitachi mn103 (panasonic controller) and the south bridge.  No matter what i did, i couldnt get the console to eject with multiple different drives.  It would boot media if i manually opened the tray, put in the disc, closed the tray, then started the system with it in.  Other than that, it was a no go.
