79fl Fw Toolbox Release?
« on: December 31, 2007, 02:18:00 PM »

Are the FW toolbox guys still working on an update to flash the firmware on 78FL/FK drives without the need of a chip? Also, how long does it usually take for a new toolbox version to come out usually?

i totally agree with you, this passkey 79 is annoying big time, i install about 15 of them , they are all working but is just a assle fuck

right now the toolbox is at 4.6

in the nfo of the 4.6 there is a comment of a future release in the works for a new toolbox that flashes 79's directly, i do not know when will this be release but i can bet you there's a ton of people waiting for it, but maximus is not dumb, why release a toolbox when you're making big money out selling your passkey????

Happy New Year 08 everyone at the scene!!!

and if somebody has more news on this question please reply cause me too i find it's the most relevant question
for the scene right now!!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Thanks for the reply man, finally someone who feels exactly the same as me! I read up on what he said in the update and all. I was thinking the same, why would he release free firmware when he is making lots of cash from the passkey? But then again he has created this software everytime for users at no extra cost so I guess him and his team are just good people, lol.

There's so many people stuck with the 79 drives since Microsoft is slowly updating most of them (over in my area at least). I'm just hoping he has a New Year download up just to surprise us.. hopefully (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Have a happy new year!

Indeed. I was hoping to get a BenQ or a Toshiba and I end up with a bloody 79. Let us all hope that Maximus will come out with a non-Passkey Toolbox release for the Hitachi.

You guys act like it is impossible to mod the 79 drive. It looks harder than it really is.

perhaps it's just me, but how the hell do you plan on flashing a 79FK/FL without getting it into
Mode B??

The 79 Passkey is needed to put the drive into Mode B so your PC can detect it and mount
it as a usuable drive..

I'd like to see a program and or device that you can plug the drive directly into that will make
use of the recovery mode which is known as `bricked' for Hitachis and allow you to reflash
without having to solder a supplimental chip to the DVD control board like with ChilliFix or
having to remove the flashchip and using a programmer..

hell better yet.. it's been over 2 f*cking years since the 360 has been out.. How about a modchip
for it so we can run unsigned code on it and create better looking Dashes for it rather than
the sh*t that M$ keeps putting out in updates..

for mode B , you don't need the passkey, just use SLAX cd, it's a bootable linux based software that will put your drive directly in mode B, i use it for the all the other hitachi's version 47, 59 ,78

Technozone99, I have a Hitachi 79 drive and everywhere I read people say you cannot read the DVD key without the passkey device. If you could confirm for me that Slax will extract the dvd key from 79 drives that would be appreciated because I do not want to buy a passkey if I do not have to. All I want to do is extract the key from my Hitachi 79 and put it in an old TS MS25 drive I got from a friend and use that one instead.

read my thread carefully friend, the slax cd is just for the drive to go in mode B, for the extraction fo the key you do need the passkey (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

If this article, http://www.clevermod.com/index.php?article=11 is correct. I should be able to extract the Hitachi 79 key using memdumpwin once the drive is in Mode B. Correct? or I am I missing something :}

The article is correct, but it does not work for the 79 drive. You are able to put the drive into Mode B with the slax cd, but you are not able to dump the firmware to get the drivekey.
To dump the firmware, you have to use the passkey.

A new one will come out when one is needed. Could be months or years. Be happy with what you got. He along with the other mod gods do what they do because they like doing it. NOT because they HAVE to do it.

If you people want software only solution to the 79 drive and don't want to wait until MAXIMUS makes one then start coding a software solution yourself.

Since it should be as easy as you all think it is then we should be able to be flashing our 79 drives in no time.
