Yea I know it is trash. But good thing is a new site is in the works from the ground up and hopefully should go live soon.

Just out of interest, what does memdump do on a 79 once it is in ModeB, return an error ?, or return a key full of zero's, or what ?

I tried to dump the firmware some time ago with plscsi. There you can send the E7"HIT" commands and dump the firmware, but it didn´t work. I got a BIN firmware file, but it wasn´t filled with real code.

Interesting.....I wonder if the dump you obtained is consistent (ie same data every time, even though its useless)

Id like to see a dump such as what you have taken, alongside the true dump from the same drive, taken with a passkey fitted.  I always thought the problem was just that it wouldnt go into ModeB, and the passkey sorted that....clearly its doing much more than I imagined.

Very interesting. I also am curious as to what you get using slax if it really puts a 79 drive into Mode B or not. I seem to get different answers on this one.

Slax will put the 79 drive into mode b. But you cant read or write the flash without the PassKey.

this thread is running in circles, that's what i said from the start , slax cd will put drive in mode B but you still need passkey to extract the firmware. the toolbox 4.6 is the latest release with no support of that issue hopefully a new toolbox will eventually allow to read/write firmware without passkey. Yes, just the 79 needs the passkey.
