78fk Upgrade Issues
« on: December 29, 2007, 01:29:00 PM »

I have a 78FK Hitatchi DVD-ROM drive and I'm trying to flash it to...

iXtreme 1.4

It doesn't have the original firmware on it as it was flashed by someone else. The console has never been connected to Live or even the internet at all so it hasn't been blocked my Microsoft.

I am trying to upgrade to iXtreme 1.4, the drive is definitely in ModeB.

The error I get from the upgrade software is....

QUOTE
"The system cannot execute the specified program"
............................
ERROR : Hitachi DVD Drive is NOT flashing!!!

Is this down to the SATA controller on my motherboard?

If so, is there any way to find out exactly what the controller is?

My server has, I think, the required Via SATA controller but that's in my attic and I'm not going to get it down just yet, just in case that's not the problem.

Or is this down to something else? Is it in an issue that it has already been flashed?

I have tried the "RESTORE.bat" but that gives the same error.

I have now tried with the Via SATA PCI card - Via Chipset VT6421A, still no luck.

360 Firmware Toolbox V4.6 is able to read and write to the firmware.

But the iXtreme 1.4 firmware won't go on (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

mate use Firmware Toolbox V4.6 to patch the drive. Since you dont have the original firmware you will have to get the original firmware for your drive and inject your key into it and do a differential restore and then do the smart hacker patch.

cheers
