Still Can't Dump Ms28 Fw
« on: December 19, 2007, 03:11:00 PM »

Hello everyone,

After countless hours of frustration, I am hoping someone can give me some advice.

My current setup consists of the following:

Gigabit GA-7VT600 motherboard
Rosewill RC-215 VIA 6421 chipset PCI SATA controller
TS H943 MS28 dvd drive

iPrep 101 v6
iExtreme 1.4

USB boot

I am able to boot via USB sucessfully.  MKTFLASH also recognizes the MS28 drive.  I get to the prompt asking me to select drive

1.  XTREME Pri Master

I power off the xbox360 and have waited anywhere from 0-30 seconds (using every combination) and still it will not read the firmware.  I have tried combinations of powering on (Xbox first, PC second), (PC first, Xbox second) (PC first, Xbox after DOS prompt).

If I can get to the point that MKTFLASH recognizes my dvd drive, does this confirm that my current PC configuration is correct?

Any help at this point is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

tdwiek

Sounds like your setup is fine, it's the 10-second method that sucks. I always use this method and have no problems: The 100% Correct Way To Flash A MS28

Give it a try. If you can't get it to work you can PM me and I'll see if there's anything I can do to help.

The bad-flash method is what he's having trouble with, just like the dozens of others who can't get it to work! Although it's really only a variation, the method I linked to takes out all the ambiguity of the bad-flash method i.e. no "wait 10 seconds... or try 5, 12, 15.." etc. You follow the instructions and it works - simple (I know you feel the same about bad-flashing). Which is why I recommend it to those who are having problems.

I know you're only promoting the method that works for you, just the same as me, but I see too many posts from those having problems with the 10-second trick (or whatever you want to call it) to recommend it to anyone, especially those who are inexperienced at flashing.

If the bad-flash method you use is different to, say, the one in Textbook's guide, why not give a bit more info? All the bad-flash tutorials I've seen are the same i.e. turn xbox off, choose drive, wait 10 seconds and turn xbox on. It JUST DOESN'T WORK for sooo many people. Perhaps they're just too impatient to keep at it, but why should they when there is another proven method they can try?

BTW tdwiek, did you get it to work yet?

p.s. Not trying to be offensive or start a flame-war, I just didn't think your post was very helpful to the OP

You will just have to play with the settings in your BIOS. I learned not to disable any of the drives (dvd, HDD, etc). I disconnect the wires physically to prevent flashing the wrong drive. MS28 is a biatch to flash!! I always have problems when I have to update my firmware. I Finally got rid of it and replaced it with a BenQ. So much easier!
