Stuck Flashing Ben
« on: December 19, 2007, 05:36:00 AM »

hey all ., I'm trying my first attempt at flashing my Xbox 360 ,
after reading tons of web sites and watching videos on this .
I'm stuck .
first it wouldn't load in dos or windows , so I switched computers and now windows can see it , using dosflash 32 v1.4
but for some reason it won't go in to recovery in dos , so dosflash 16 won't read it ,

so I'm trying to read my bin at the moment in windows , and it seems to be stuck at reading bank 0 .

I don't think I missed anything .
any tips ?? I would love some help (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

If it is stuck reading at bank 0 then the dvd drive is not in mode b.  Check the power button on the 360 if it is not flashing then it is not in mode b.  Here is a tutorial I made for flashing the benq check it out and see if your sata chipset is supported and make sure you are doing all the steps.   This method works for me 100% of the time...although sometimes it will take several attempts to get the drive in mode b.

Best Way I have found to flash a Benq

**There is no need to solder any wires with this method. It is a software flash. Does not require any type of mods to the drive.**

- First you will need Benq.iXtreme.v1.4 and DOSFlash3.2 (check download section) installed on your PC. I have WindowsXP. Never tried on Vista cause I don't have it yet.
- With the PC off, connect the Benq to your PCs sata or Sata card make sure it is compatable. Leave the Benq connected to the 360s power supply.
- Turn PC on and boot to Windows XP
- Turn on the 360.
- Start DosFlash3.2
- DosFlash3.2 will ask you if you wanna resend the mtk vendor intro cmd, press Yes
- Turn off the 360 and wait 2 or so seconds the turn the 360 back on.
- You should notice the green power led on the 360 is flashing. This means the Benq is in modeb.
- DosFlash3.2 will pop up and show the info of the Benq drive.
- Press the Read button and save the firmware as "orig" in the Benq.iXtreme.v1.4 folder you wish. I used 8x
- Now run "Make iXtreme firmware" from that folder. You will see a new bin file called "ix14"
- The ix14 bin file is the hacked firmware you are going to flash your drive with.
- Now go back to the DosFlash3.2 window and from the drop down window choose "write"
- Now press the "write" button and choose the hacked file you created ix14.bin
- DosFlash32 will show progress of erasing and then writing the banks.
- You are now done.

BenQ's dont have modeb.  You have to get the flash to go into recovery mode, which is done by turning the console on/off appropriately while reading/writing.

Also, the list of chipsets are all of the chipsets that work with Dosflash.  They dont all work for flashing a BenQ WITHOUT SOLDERING.  The only two that work without are VIA's and nForce chipsets, as are stated below.

If you do have a VIA, it is likely that dosflash32 wont work for you.  It seems to be very picky about what your onboard chipset is (southbridge).  I have a VIA based pci sata card and a VIA southbridge and it works fine, which is very very rare.

Ok. I will rephrase:

If it is stuck reading at bank 0 then the dvd drive is not in recovery mode. Check the power button on the 360 if it is not flashing then it is not in recovery mode.

As stated above, this is the method I use.  It may not be the way others do it, but It is how I have done MANY.

As for the supported chipsets, this is a list from the readme as to chipsets supported for Dosflash.  I have not tested them all on Benq so caster420 may be correct...but caster420 may have not tested them all either.

I use a VIA pci card.

I have not tested them all, the autor and his testers did.  I was simply stating that only VIA's and nForce chipsets work with Xbox 360 BenQ drives WITHOUT soldering.  If you want to use a different chipset then the two mentioned above, you have to solder in a switch to force the flash to go into recovery.

i also have a benQ and i had the same proble.
when i would start the dumping and "reading bank 0..." came up it wouldnt move at all.

watching tutourial vids this part the reading bank 0 would go by really quick, so i thought i did something wrong.

but then after many, many tries, i started to dump, it would get stuck, so i left it there and reread the tutorial. Amazingly it moved on to "reading bank 1..."  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I guess my computer takes way longer to dump the OFW, than the computers seen on tutorial vidoes.

So my suggestion is when you hit the "reading bank 0..." part just to leave it on for at least a minuet or two.
