More Xbox Live ban waves this weekend

I don't think it matters if you "Play On Live" or not. I never played on Live - I don't even have (or had) a Gold Subscription - I only used my Silver Live Account for downloading demos, trailers etcetera. I was banned. And I  had iXtreme1.4 (MS25) when I was banned.

I bought a new Elite (BenQ) and will be flashing it to iXtreme1.41 - as I understand, right now there is no evidence that iXtreme1.41 is safe, i.e., people are still getting banned using iXtreme1.41 - so I just plan on keeping my network cable unplugged. Not that I use Live to play online, but still, I'd rather keep the console unbanned for future usage on Live if a more secure firmware comes along.

my understanding is you get banned for playing ANY unstealthed games on your 360, even if it was in the distant past. also if you somehow played a game title before it's offical release date, that marks you for a ban.

the firmware itself I believe isn't being detected.. If it were then you would get banned regardless if you played only originals... at least that's my take.

Did you play campaigns, etc.. while having your silver account logged into Live?  That is exactly the same this as 'playing on live'.  Regardless of whether or not you play on the Live servers, if your Live enabled account is logged in, your disc data is being checked.

There is no evidence that it isnt safe.  People who have been banned with new firmware have typically used older firmware in the past, while connected to live servers.  There is also nothing to suggest that it is the firmware, but rather the media you boot and the data reported from that media.

So, if  you're waiting for a 'more secure firmware', you better plan on never using Live.  The potential to be banned will always exist and if you dont want to take the risk, then down use Live.  If security related issues were known, they would already be patched and v1.5 would be released. It is that simple - welcome to the wonderful world of modding.

Caster.

Never! Never played campaigns or anything, period. I think all I have ever done on Live is download Console Updates, Game Updates, Demos, Trailers & Themes. That's it!

That would be me! Not only did I have older firmware like xtreme5.2 - but I also happen to have played unstealthed games in the past. I think once I survived all ban hammers and got to iXtreme1.4, I just thought I was safe. I never used unstealthed backups on iXtreme1.4 - but I did use them in the past. That could be the reason I was banned.

I totally understand this - don't get me wrong. I guess after the banning of my first console, I'm trying to do everything right and possibly using every known precaution. I do know a 'ban-proof' infallible firmware will never arrive - it will always be a cat & mouse chase between us modders & M$.

I'm actually glad you replied because you do seem to know a bit about this.

I'll be flashing my BenQ to iXtreme1.41 this week. My first question is - when you say "stealthed", we're talking passing the iXtreme Compatibility in XDVDMulleter - Right? Because all my backups now pass that - I don't have a single bad backup anymore. Threw out the old ones and made new ones.

Secondly, iXtreme1.41 will be going on my virgin console - i.e., no previous older firmware ever flashed.

That all being said - Do you think it would be ok (And when I say "Ok" - I'm not asking 'ban-proof', just better) - If I keep the Network Cable unplugged while playing a Backup or whenever there's a backup in drive - and ONLY connect the Network Cable (to download whatever I want / post achievements online) when there is NO backup in the Drive?

thanks - appreciate it!

mickey797 - The only Sure way to make sure that you won't be banned and be able to connect to live to update your achievements/downloads is to Not have a modded FW.

Anytime you put a backup disk in the console, their program, meaning m$, has a log file going and its not on the Hard drive. It does not matter if your connected to live at the time of playing the backup game for your console to be banned.

Hmm, you might be right - but that contradicts the advice I got. Basically I'm advised to only connect to Live while there's NO backup disc in drive, and not to connect while there's a backup disc in drive - to 'minimize' risk of banning.

What you're saying is - they'll log the fact that I played a backup even though there's no backup in tray at the time of connecting to live.

I've just flashed my 78 drive in my new 360 with iXtreme 1.4 and I have checked all my backups with Xbox backup creator 2.8 since being banned last may.

I've thrown out all the ones that failed the security check and the rest all pass.

my question is some pass with the splitvid not being present but it states its safe with ixtreme firmware. Anyone give me some opinions of splitvid not being present and how reliable backup creator security check is for live?

I'm trying to get the most info before I take this thing online.

Same sort of place they store PPV logs on Sky Digital boxes. eeprom or any other flash memory they see fit.
You don't know if they don't store logs any more than he knows for sure they do.
It is quite possible and they could and may be are.

XBC is quick but not very thorough in terms of the stealth checks.  I've had many ISOs pass XBC but fail Schtrom.  Schtrom is significantly more thorough and accurate, IMO.

I was away in America from Dec 15th to Jan 7th. I don't have a Gold membership, never had, so only use Live for demos, updates etc. I had loaned my 360 to my brother-in-law when I was away but as I couldn't find the original AV cable, he never got a chance to play it. He returned it to me on the 13th Jan and I connected it up and turned it on only. I was having isp problems at that time so I never even attempted to connect to Live.

I modded a colleagues 360 (BenQ 1.41) on 16th Jan (tested on Live by him with Assassins Creed - Kreon checked good and console not banned) and updated my own fw at the same time. My son played MX vs ATV for a while on Jan 20th (Kreon checked good) and that was it. I tried to log on to Live on 23rd Jan and was banned. At the same time I found out my Samsung MS28 drive was dead, it cannot read any discs at all, games, cd's or dvd's.

I can only think that the ban has been sitting waiting for me since that fateful weekend in Dec.
