You can just flash over it with the new firmware once your drive key is inserted. Dosflash erases the chip before it writes anyway.

QUOTE(Toddler @ Dec 9 2007, 12:21 PM) *

First of all, there's absolutely no value in Kreon Checker with 1.4 FW.  Delete it from your PC and move on.  It only told you if your rip was possible to trigger the >359 calc bug in older firmwares.

Second, MS probably can't detect and certainly can't ban based on your drive speed.  Even a stock 360 drive steps down to slower speeds as needed with scratched/dirty media.

So your basically saying it doesn't matter if you play a game with a ss that resulted bad or good in kreon checker. It only mattered for firmwares prior to 1.4?

I flashed from 5X 1.3 to 8X 1.4 and could not stand the high pitch noise my 360 was creating.  So I flashed eventually flashed to 5X 1.4 and could not be happier.

Scratching my head on all this.  All very exciting stuff nevetherless.

Anyway, 1.4 will wrap the angle round so as not to produce result beyond acceptible range of 359.  That sounds fine - CHECK

This in essence means that rips reported as Bad by kreon checker will no longer be at risk of producing angle over 359 if used on 1.4.  That sounds fine also - CHECK

So whats left to detect - what is the remaining risk?

Why recommend Samsung rips over Kreon if the hole has been plugged? - I understand that Samsung has higher probability of producing rips that are within acceptible range from the outset, but how does that now matter with iXtreme 1.4 ? - what is the fundamental difference remaining?

Cheers,
Muz

Some of the c4eva transcript from #fw

[09:45] <c4eva> sammy 0800 records actual timings from the disk, so is best
[09:53] <c4eva> fact remains a new game may have new timing values and kreon will just put a fake/estimated value in
[09:55] <c4eva> kreon fw would have to replicate exact routines to do timers, this may not be possible with its drive hardware
[10:02] <c4eva> soulpet:fact would ramain that you are not using actual 360 drive hardware, and timings could not be trusted

That´s some fantastic news. I really appreciate the efford from those great guys.

I do have some questions though. :-)

   1) Do C4E accept donations for his effords? I know he does it for the fun but i´d love to give him a beer or two... Add some extra fun to it! ;-)

   2) What do you think about the missing Video 1 Layer? Is Splitvit a true necessity?

   3) What about On-line CRC check? Does anyone know if it´s still trustful or if some cleanse is needed?

   Thanks in advance!

Just updated my sammy from 1.3_8x to 1.4_8x. All went smooth as butter.

Thanks C4E (and the rest) for all your hard work!

I gues this technically means use the Samsung in the 360 or an oem.Because the SH-D162 drives are Samsung drives with Kreon Firmware.Guess my Blaster will come in handy but it kind of sucks because if the Kreon is not recoomended anymore it is basically a useless drive.Plus having to move the 360 to the pc for backups.

Hi,
If I played bad kreon backups offline and wasnt online since then. After I'll flash my ms28 with 1.4 iXtreme should I first format the HDD before loging on to XBL? or the bad data is not being logged offline?

Thanks.

QUOTE(destro604 @ Dec 9 2007, 12:38 PM) View Post

Seeing as no one really knows, this is what is true for the moment:
There is nothing to indicate that checks are being done offline and storing some sort of data to the HDD or anywhere else on the console.

In my experience I think there is, I was banned in the first wave despite NEVER playing a game backup on Live or even having it connected to the network while playing a backup.
