Unspoofing Hitachi 78fk (currently Spoofed As Ts Ms25)
« on: February 02, 2020, 04:18:00 PM »

I just bought a replacement Hitachi 78 to replace the dead Hitachi 47 in one of my consoles. I'm attempting to get it into modeb with no success. After looking things over, Slax sees the drive as a "TSSTcorpDVD-ROM TS-H943Ams25" which is obviously not what the drive is. Because of this, I can't get the spinning up drive message and cannot get it into modeb to flash my console key. Powering on the drive after the tray has been opened hasn't helped either.

How should I proceed?

Running a spoofed Hitachi drive shouldn't stop it from going into modeB, unless there's no xtreme firmware on board. Chances are, it doesn't which is why it's not working.

What version of Slax are you booting?

The other option is to either use the wires method for ModeB. I was under the impression that the Xecuter Connectivity Kit should work in this situaion, although I've seen posts to the contrary.

Edit: I found this thread elsewhere - take a look:
