Benq, Iprep 101 V006 Via 8237a Advice
« on: December 05, 2007, 11:51:00 AM »

Hi,

So far I have dismantled my 360 and removed the sata cable from the dvd drive. Tomorrow some cables are ariving and I am going to create a sata pass through, close up the case and then get ready to flash.

I have read through the benq pdf tutorial "BenQ VAD6038 - DOS Manual.pdf"
and "flashingTut.pdf"

The Benq pdf is out of date. It uses iPrep 002. I am using 006.
How should i procede?

I notice that when i run iPrep on C:\ i get a folder called iPrep_101 with several bat files, intro.exe, tools, CFW, backups. What does intro.exe do?
I assume the bats I am concerned with are rBen, fBen and dBen. These bat files contain instructions as i have read in the tuts like dosflash r EC00 1 a0 1 4 *.bin 0 and stuff. I am supposed to run these in dos?
iPrep 006 doesnt report the device IO address but I assume it has sent it to the bat file (EC00).
I have read that i should tick "Patch MTKFlash". The other tick boxes as mentioned in the tuts are not present. Is this ok?

How does one go about earthing the 360 when the case is closed?
Should i be running the very latest drivers for my via? or is there a recommended set?
Where do i find the "Make iXtreme firmware” batch file in Windows?
Is there anything else in the tuts which is wrong or anything left out?

Thats all the questions I can think of at the moment.

I have searched this forum endlessly but I cant find a clear solution.

Thank you for your time.

Whooaa buddy, slow down. You're thinking too much about this and I think the PDF's you're looking at are out of date as they released EASIER Methods.. I had an xbox360 premium with a hitachi 59 in it. It kept getting the RROD (hence my name) so I got fed up and bought an arcade HOPING it would at least have a BenQ drive. To my delight.. it has a BenQ (same as yours) and it was 9 times easier flashing the BenQ than the Hitachi! I have a VIA6421 card in my PC. Before you start with flashing the drive in DOS and going with iPrep and all that crap, try Dosflash32. It's extremely simple and took about 3 minutes to read, erase & flash my BenQ and works FLAWLESS!! (Quite too) This is what I did:

- Connect the xbox360 to your sata in your pc leaving it in the xbox case with the power connected.
- Turn on your PC and get into Windows.
- Power on your Xbox360.
- Start DOSFlash32.exe.
- It's going to pop up a message saying something i don't remember, it will ask you to choose yes or no.
- Click YES then IMMEDIATELY turn off the xbox360 wait ONE second and power it back on.
- DosFlash32 will pop up.
- Read the firmware save it to your desktop or something.
- Take your firmware and put it into the ixtreme folder with make ixtreme.bat.
- Run Makeixtreme it will copy your key from your orig.bin to your new ixtreme firmware file.
- Repeat the process of dosflash32 and write your firmware.
- Write down the number on the bottom of the window and flash 2 or 3 times and make SURE you got that same # back.

This worked for me. I've read to use this first, if it fails or you cant get it to work then boot to dos and use iprep and all that other good stuff. Post your results!

That's fine as long as it worked. I did it 2 or 3 times to make sure I got the same # on the bottom just to be safe, but if it worked first time and u tested it.. then that's it! That number on the bottom just shows you what flashes and if it was different it means something didnt go right the first time.

This worked for me, wow it was easy. First time flasher, took 45 mins to get case open, connect to pc, and flash.  Haven't put the case back together yet though, might want to try 12X firmware (using 8X now and its working great)  I did not install any drivers for my VIA pci sata card, just plugged it in, booted windows, and hit cancel when it asked about drivers.  When you do this power off and back on, you really gotta do it fast.  LIke press yes, turn off... immediately turn ON.

Did you get it working riviera kid?

I noticed that you said the pdf was out of date, so does that mean I don't have to solder a switch to the drive unless I use DOS?
thanks for the info

no more switch, just get a via card. it's easier than flashing the hitachi.

It's been a while since I've posted in these forums, but this deserved a nod. Thanks for the tips, worked great. I'd recommend NOT installing the VIA drivers... mine were installed and caused DosFlash32 to hang. Uninstalling the driver resolved the issue. Thanks!

just curious here...But I'm assume that you are using XP...right?

I could never get th dosflash32 to work, but I'm using vista...so who knows...maybe it was that.

BTW, can you use a dosflash32 for a samsung drive?
