Hitachi Model # W/o Breaking Warranty Seal
« on: November 22, 2007, 11:45:00 PM »

I know I have a Hitachi-LG DVD Rom drive... There are 2 Hitachi models (am I correct), one which is flashable and the other which is not (please correct me if i'm wrong). Now the 79 FL is the non flashable version unless you solder a 79 pass key (which I would never do). Is there a way to find out if I have the flashable(not the 79 FL) version without breaking my MS warranty seal? Could this be done through dates & serial numbers on the box my 360 came in or the 360 itself(by the way it's an Elite)?

There are more than two Hitachi versions (not sure exactly how many, but five or six I think) but the 78 and 79 are the most recent. The only way to know 100% for sure is opening the Xbox but the database at 360 Drives should give you a pretty good idea what you've got. (90%+)

I've tried going by the drive data base and mine matched up with someone elses exactly, and it wasnt same firmware, so if it's not 100% reliable its pretty much useless to determine. If the reason ur asking to see without breaking the seal, simply return it to the store till u get a BenQ or Samsung, that way ur safe.

Easy question you have a hitachi 79, all elites or the new standard boxes with the hdmi output have either benq or hitachi 79's in them, These were the only two drives microsoft were putting into elites, like the guy above said return it till you get a benq...

not true!

If you're talking about PAL xboxes, then it's true, but in the USA the first elites had 78's as well
