What game are you trying. Assassins creed for instance, takes VERY long loading sometimes, just randomly.

I have no probs here with the 5x version. I've tried 8x and 12x also, and i don't want to go slower then 5x

I also have this problem. I have flashed mine with the fast version of the first firmware that came out for the BENQ. Not the multispeed version. I can hear the drive spin down quite alot during play, and it sound like it struggles to read the discs. I also get dirty disc messages quite alot. I use verbs burned at 2.4 - 4x with new pioneer burner. Ive tried burning my backups with imgburn and clonecd, same result.

There seems to be quite a few people expiriencing poor performance from the benq.

Im all out of clues. sad.gif

flash a slower version. I don;t think the benq (or any other xbox dvd-drive) can read backups at 12x so i think it makes no difference at all to flash a slower version.
At least i notice no difference in loading backups with the different firmwares, i now run 5x and it works fine, it also makes MUCH less noise wink.gif

Sounds exactly what mine does sounds like the laser is jumping around all over the place for ages before anything loads and even during play seems very noisey.

Yeah I have exactly the same issue.  Some backups just take ages to load - there'd been a few times where I was about to give up and power the 360 off when after a few minutes it eventually loaded fine.  Tested the same disc (a Verb) on my Samsung 360 and it worked perfectly.  I've only tried the 12x and 8x firmware and had the same issue on both.

Same here, every time i load up my Assassin's Creed backup on my 12x benq fw after the xbox has been off, it'll take upwards of a minute just for the laser to stop searching and finally for a screen to show up from the blackness...yet no other games do this and sometimes AC will load up right away like normal. Is it possible something in the fw can be tweaked to combat this? And it does it with every speed fw by the way. And no it's not the backup itself obviously since more than one person has the problem.

I havent had any issues with my A-C backup. It loads up pretty fine. But I get alot of dirty disc messages when playing a backup of Mass Effect.

I dont know what to make of it.

I have no problems with my Benq and backup reading speeds.

Check the quality of your backups with Nero DVD-Speed (I always do this). If you got a low score use another media or DVD writer. Most DVD writers sucks anyway. My Liteon burner has always problems with dual layer but my Benq 1640 is fine even with cheap media. I always burn with 8x and had no coasters yet. The backup reading speeds are as good as the original games. biggrin.gif

I'm using a Pioneer 110 and a 112 with Verbs made in Singapore.  My burn quality rating is 98% so it's fine on that front and I've ripped the images myself with XBC and Schtrom.  Most of my games are fine - only a couple so far are suffering from the slow read problem like Kane & Lynch and Assassin's Creed.  Everything else is perfect.
