This is my first flash attempt. I used Commodore4Eva's iXtreme 1.2 revision 2 to flash my v59 hitachi. Everything went fine until the end when I recieved:

CODE

STEALTH STEP FAILED

But All other flashing 100

Will Exit now

I was able to boot my games just fine (haven't made any backups yet).

My first instinct was to restore to original and try again, but when I try to restore I cannot get past the unstealth step of the BAT file. This is what I get

ERROR: Hitachi DVD drive is NOT restoring..

WARNING: One of FOUR4 things could be wrong
#1: Shut-down all your back-ground programs
#2: Windows is in-compatible, try SAFE MODE
#3: Your DVD drive is not a working version
#4: Start mode B with DVD disk in the drive

What should I attempt to do in a situation like this?

Update...just tried a backup and it booted fine, but do you think it is safe to go on xbox live?

I dont have any experience with these drives, but dont you need to have a special disk in its drive to put the drive into 0800 state (or something like that) to disable the flashguard so you can flash a diff fw to it?

that's only samsung drives. They use Slax or 2 wire trick for these drives. i wouldnt feel safe with that drive not doing the stealth part and using backups on live.

yeah originals yes. I'm sure there is a way to fix the stealth part on yer drive. try using toolbox 4.5 to restore it then reflash with it

Did you start the flash process with a DVD in the drive?

I flashed the Hitachi 78 with Rainbow Six Vegas in the drive, work flawlessly.

Without stealth I would NOT play any games online or offline, get the stealth fixed ASAP.
My Hitachi drive with no stealth using stealth backups offline was banned, I flashed a Samsung MS-25 with stealth firmware back in Feb and it still hasn't been banned. It is not even on iXtreme firmware.
Basically the way I see it: No stealth = ban for sure, Stealth = lower chance of ban.

That's because the older hitachi firmware didn't USE the stealth in the backups. It simply did not read the SS/DMI/PFI.

And he is using the batchfiles, and not toolbox like you did with the 78 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

But to the OP

If you have a good original firmware (was.bin) Do a differential flash with toolbox (requires a movie or original game in the xbox drive) Read the tutorial within the toolbox pack.

After it's back to original, flash it with toolbox. I think you might have a better chance with toolbox then with the bach files.

The unable to restore problem on a 59DJ was exactly the same problem I experienced last week ( I posted on here about it).
I opted for the Toolbox suggestion, but upon flashing it returned a verify error, I selected retry 3 times and each time got the flashing verification error. I could do nothing more than give it a try, but unfortunately it was a gonner. It now won't eject and is bricked.
Fortunately I have the key, and a Samsung MS28 is on its way from Hong Kong, which will be key injected and spoofed when it arrives. I should have stuck with my gut instinct and left well alone, but the guy was insistant that he wanted to take the risk.

I don't know why, but i eject & close the drive during every step of flashing Hitachi's. Doing it this way has never failed me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)
