Strange Thing In Flashing Benq Drive
« on: November 16, 2007, 03:44:00 AM »

hi guys, i'm having a problem here, i got a via vt6421a card and a VT8237S chip on my motherboard, when i try to read the firmware with VT8237S(on my motherboard) it comes to read bank section but staops showing an error (i have seen that those things are not supported) but when i try with 6421a card it gives me the 0x7f (or what was it) i swith on my xbox and it becomes 0x80 and whatever i do (turn on\off) it statys that way, if i stard reading and my drive is already on, when it shows the press yes and turn off and then on thing it shows normally as it should do, i turn it off it becomes 0xD1 as it should be, i get happy and turn it on, it bounces between 0xD1 and 0x51 and whatever i do here (turn on\off) it stays that way (when off shows 0xD1 and when on 0xD1 and 0x51) so i do not know what to do (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)  i have experience with flashing both samsung ms28 and hitachi 70 but this one bugs me very bad, hoping to see an answer =)  thx

p.s. in windows if i use dosflash32 it doesn't even show me the numbers of ports of my vt 6421a card

ok, need more info. what are you using to flash (floppy drive , usb stick, etc...)
what are you after you type dosflash _ _ _ _ _ _ _.
did you get the correct code for identifying which drive to send the command to .
i have a 6421a sata card as well , my code is cc00 , is this the same with you.

dont flash through windows . its more compatible through dos.
the benQ and ms25 samsung drives are the easiest drives to flash .
thanks to schtrom and c4eva.

i'm using a cd disk with nfs4dos
i type
CODE
Dosflash r EC00 1 a0 1 4 c:\orig.bin 0

or this
CODE
Dosflash r E880 1 a0 1 4 c:\orig.bin 0
which is my 2nd port on this sata card
Yes i did get the correct code, as when it is turned off it stays at 0xD1 and only when i turn on it starts to bounce

maybe the easiest but i get this strange thing, i can't even proceed with reading as it does nothing when i tun on or off

get a hold of a flopppy a: drive and try again .
we had also problems using a cd drive.
check if the code is right by using the dosflash in windows(dos32) and it should give description of the benQ drive .e.g  PBDS    VAD6038-64930C , but flash in dos using floppy a: drive .it should go through.

problem solved:
i have taken the xbox to a friend of mine, who has nforce 4 chipset, worked like a charm, the USB flash drive or diskettes didn't help, don't even know why, if via 6421a is one of the best supported chipsets O_o thx for the help anyway guys.
