Hitachi 78fk, Firmware Or Lens?
« on: November 14, 2007, 02:31:00 PM »

My 1st 360 just died last week (3 rings for death) and I was able to get a "box swap" at my local retailer.  The new xbox360 has the 78fk drive. I've gone through and have complete the firmware hack using toolbox 4.5 and after some small issues have got the xtreame1.2 (had problems with 1.7) flash working. The first thing i noticed though is that the 78fk is very picky with media and a lot of my backups wouldnt work (dirty disc erros). Most of my backups are with memorex and some tdk (some memorex/tdk work fine). So i went out and found some Verbatims and it seems to help some what. Games will boot everytime (so far) with the Verbs but sometimes in mid play the dirty disc error apears. All my orginals work perfectly as well as dvd movies. I think i might have been spoiled as my old 360  (hitachi 47) seems to work with all media and never had an issue. These backup worked fine with my previous 360.

Using a Pioneer DV108 with imgburn (my dv111d died and is at pioneer, i hope it will be replaced soon).

So my question is; is there a better firmware to help with these disc errors?

Could my lens be dirty? Should i purchase the HD67 lens replacement or HD63; will that even help?

Should i purchase a new drive and spoof it?

Thanks
