Problem... not using iPrep - I can't get the new definitions because my ISP now bans EFNET

.
So I used the same old method, just running the included batch file against my orig.bin and used my old usb key method to flash it. No go, I also got the 'put in an xbox 360 disc... blah blah...'... went back to my 1.2 rev C and its back to normal. Tried it again, no go.
Do I need to use iPrep... I know another post mentioned they didn't use it and still worked ok..
Someone mentioned using firmware toolbox to confirm the keys. Everytime I check the new ix13.bin file, it only shows F's. When I check my 1.2 rev C (or older ones), it is normal.... arrghhh...
Also, although I doubt it, if my orig.bin has been corrupted, can I use my 1.2 rev C (I know this has been asked before..).. darn.. I can't imagine that is the case though... I think I'd know if it were somehow corrupted and I have multple copies for safekeeping...
I know that 1.2 rev C is a good version to keep using if necessary, but I'm a fan of using the latest and greatest.
Any advice?
Anything is appreciated...
TIA...
In short, it's not copying the key over.
Open your original firmware in FWTB and you should see your proper key (as you've already stated). Personally at this stage, I would enter your box's serial number and a name underneath and click on "save of database". As long as you don't delete the FWTB data, your key will be nice and safe in here.
Now, highlight your key and copy to clipboard (either right-click copy or CTRL-C). Now, open your ix13.bin file and highlight your line of F's. Right-Click paste, or CTRL-V. Now click on 'Replace Key' To clarify, make sure your name/serial number appears as you entered it below the key string. There's no need to save anything, you've just injected your key into the firmware. write the resulting file to your drive and you're done.
