Swapping Drives..
« on: November 10, 2007, 09:15:00 AM »

Alrght so my launch console.. my beloved console with a hitachi v46 drive in it finally gave up its life. After a year of on and off repairs it finally gave out (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I mean this thing has been through it all.. name a repair and ive used it on this baby.. So I'm thinking about getting a new xbox 360 right.. and im hoping i get another hitachi because i dont know how to flash sammy's or benq's.. but if i dont and i do get a sammy or a benq is there an easy way to swap drives? So my old v46 will work in a newer console.. I know theres tutorials on how to do this im just wondering if it will work for me without having to BUY NEW hardware.. thanks in advance..

oh also i was wondering if there was any way to increase your chance of getting a certain type of drive.. like by going to a certain store/location/area ect.

all new systems have hitachi 79's and benqs. In your case id say shoot for a benq as 79 need passkey and experience soldering. http://www.360drives.com/list has lists of people who get benqs and hitachis but its always a hit and miss. From my experience most premiums have benqs so shoot for one of those.

yeah according to the list cores ususally get 78 or hitachi and NO benq's..

Unfortunually I dont want to spend all the money for the premium because i allready have all my old stuff.. (hdd, controler, hdtv cables)

Maybe it would just be easier to spend 20$ for a correct pci sata card to flash a 78? then to go through all the trouble of swapping drives...
