I have the SYBA SY-VIA-150 PCI SATA / IDE Combo Controller Card, Non Raid - Retail
that I bought from newegg and have used it to flash benq drives. Works great for me.

hi guys, i'm having a problem here, i got a via vt6421a card and a VT8237S chip on my motherboard, when i try to read the firmware with VT8237S(on my motherboard) it comes to read bank section but staops showing an error (i have seen that those things are not supported) but when i try with 6421a card it gives me the 0x7f (or what was it) i swith on my xbox and it becomes 0x80 and whatever i do (turn on\off) it statys that way, if i stard reading and my drive is already on, when it shows the press yes and turn off and then on thing it shows normally as it should do, i turn it off it becomes 0xD1 as it should be, i get happy and turn it on, it bounces between 0xD1 and 0x51 and whatever i do here (turn on\off) it stays that way (when off shows 0xD1 and when on 0xD1 and 0x51) so i do not know what to do sad.gif i have experience with flashing both samsung ms28 and hitachi 70 but this one bugs me very bad, hoping to see an answer smile.gif thx

Hi guys,

Thanks for the great tutorial, but I have a small question.

Is it possible to flash my BenQ drive without being able to boot from a USB key? I have a ASUS p4S333 motherboard and in the BIOS, I can't put the boot mode to USB. Also, I don't have a floppy drive. I flashed my MS28 drive using NTFS4Dos and flashing the files to my HDD, can I do it the same way?

Thanks!

not working for me with the 0 switch at the end

trying dosflash r 8000 1 a0 1 4 c:\orig.bin 0

works without the 0 switch though and seems to successfully create the orig.bin file - too scared to flash it though in case that 0 switch is important ?? anyone know if that 0 switch at the end of the dosflash string is important.  When that is added to the string it just lists the dosflash help screen listing all the switches and didnt see mention of that 0 switch

Edit/Update:  Bit the bullet and read/erased & flashed without using the 0 switch at the end of the dosflash string and works flawlessly - so I am guessing the 0 at the end of each of the steps is a typo.  One thing of note though is I read the firmware multiple times to make sure the datasum was the same each time but when writing the ixtreme firmware back to the drive the datasum differed. I am guessing thats because the orig.bin was merged with the default benq-ixd.bin to create the new modded firmware.  But all seems to be running smooth.  These Benq drives are nice and quiet I might consider getting rid of my old MS28 for a Halo 3 edition one with a Benq, because when I opened it up I was relieved to see the new heatsink and gpu pipe setup on the unit. At some point my MS28 is gonna RROD and with MS doing stringent checks on the units I cant see them repairing my 360 even though there was an inherent manufacturing defect with them all up till recently.

Hi, im thinking about flashing my 360 and am very new to the whole thing. Your tutorial looks very good but i wont be able to buy that SATA card from the site you recommended. Would this card do the job:
http://cgi.ebay.co.u...bayphotohosting

Also, would any USB stick do, or is there any in specific.
Thanks.

I was finally able to use dosflash16 to do a read of my Benq drive using a different computer (Dell).  I made 2 "orig.bin" file backups, then used the firmtool to make a hacked version, then erased and wrote the firmware back onto the drive.

Now, when I boot the 360, it doesn't recognize any discs at all, original or backup.

So, I decided to erase that firmware and write one of my orig.bin files back onto it.  It still doesn't read any discs.

Any idea what could have gone wrong?  Corrupt read (twice)?

Would there be any way to get at least my original firmware back onto the drive again?

Thanks for your help!
