Ms28 Read/write Flash Ok, Restoring To Orig.bin Still Gives E65
« on: October 31, 2007, 03:34:00 AM »

Hello all,

As my title suggests I have a MS28. Using the 10sec trick I got my orig.bin off without any problems. After flashing with hacked.bin I got E 65 with the one red light on. I tried putting back my orig.bin and it worked fine all 4 banks. I still get e65 error. re-reading the fw to orig2.bin and compaired them and they are the same. It's just not accepting the drive. I have key10-30.txt which looks fine. I am really puzzled by this, not one else seems to have had it. I have a drive i can flash and read at will, all my firmwares and key but a dead xbox.

Any help appreciated. Proper gutted at the min after a sleepless night.

Thanks for reply

i use iprep which is idump/iflash, I know it uses SAMTool and I have tried using Samtool without the bat files. What's really baffling me is why I can write my orig.bin back and all 4 banks say done and I get complete success, yet when I power on the xbox with drive attached I get E65. If I power on xbox without the drive attached it goes into my dash but obviously I have no drive available to play games.

This is so strange. I have checked my orig.bin and the key is correct, my hacked.bin has the same key. I can read my drive to create more bin files. And I can add fw I get bank 0 - 3 all ok wilth a checksun of somekind. It's totally all working yet I still get E65 what the hell is wrong, I don't even know which part to replace if i have to.

If I boot xbox without a drive it goes to dash no problem. grrrr there must be something else i can try?

Check that the power cable from the drive is in the motherboard properly, that solved a problem i had once, worth a try.

I have just checked it out. I can actually eject the drive and everything as long as the xbox sata cable isn't plugged in when i power it up. I just know this drive is not a brick, i mean whatever I flash it with I can re-read it back off so it's go to be ok. Everything is pointing to a dodgy key extraction, has anyone ever extracted orig.bin and key and ended up with the wrong one, is this even possible?

sounds like maybe a bad dump. are you using 0800 disc to reflash? seems like firmguard now isnt letting you reflash is all.

I loaded the orig.bin in FWToolbox and it identifies it ok, has the key I have and report that it came from a ms28 so seems ok.

I am using the bad flash method with a VIA 6421 PCI SATA Card so I haven't used the 0800 disc thing. How dows that work, do you think that could be my problem? I am also going to try a new SATA cable just incase.

Thanks for reply

I thought I would attach the image of my screen after a flash using the bad flash 10 second trick. Still gives me error 65 and I know the key is the right one. I have changed SATA cables and checked all connections. I don't have to put the whole thing back together for it to work do i?

I know I am clutching at straws now, it just seems that everything is working fine and still giving me a stupid E65 ARGH!!!!

did you check the new firmware in toolbox and make sure keys are exactly the same? seems like a key problem. Try going back to original and see what happens.

If it was something as simple as a key prob it would not give E65 & a red quadrant.
You only know your key is wrong when u try to boot a game & see the "to play this disc put it in an xbox360" message.

More than likely you have blown something on the drive board.
Open up the drive & remove the board.
Plug the Sata & power cable into the board & place a finger on the EliteMT chip(i think thats what its called) & if it gets hot right away replacement board needed

Thanks Slim, I have a feeling that your going to be right here. It's the only logical thing left to try.

Anyone any ideas where I can get a replacement PCB, I have looked in usual placed. If not I guess I will have to buy the whole MS28 drive and be a little more careful with the crock clips.
