Some guy in #fw told me the other day that he had been talking with Maximus and that he had said there was going to be a software solution. It's being in released in January, it seems.
Well, I like many have had to buy a new 360 (for whatever reason).
My 'old' 360 was one of the 1st batch in the UK with a Hitachi 046 drive. Waited until Dec 06 for the warranty to be up and then flashed the drive and the rest was history .... until that fatefull, historical day earlier this year (MC Hammer, eat your heart out) when it's 'live' was history. And before you say anything, I never, repeat never played my backups' on-line, however I was connected to live on most of the later stages whilst playing a backup
So, 2 weeks ago I got my 'new' 360 and thought I might as well get an Elite. (IMG:

However it came with an Hitachi drive and I expect it's a 79FL judging by the other posts in the
Xbox 360 Drive DatabaseNow having read all the posts before and after buying my new box I knew the risks of getting one of these drives. I also knew that I'd need a passkey (probably Maximus from what I've been reading about the Infectus problems with the 79FK) and a Slax 2.x disc and might be able to use my 360USB kit or may have luck with my VIA chipset on-board SATA.
Now for the 1st time in about 3 months worth of research, pondering, and wondering when to get a new 360 and taking the plunge I read this post. (IMG:

All I can say that if this is true, IF!! Then my friends with the same drive .... we are finally in luck! (IMG:

However, I will wait and see what happens, because this all seems to true to me ... but then again I have been suprised once before .... 6 months or so after I got my 1st 360 and realised how easy it would be to play backups and safeguard me oh-so-valuable-bloody-expensive-but-cant-do-without-game-discs
