iXtreme 1.2 rev2 I believe. Of course, you're going to have to solder a chip onto the drive to get it into mode B so you can flash it.

I guess those of us with 79fl (and fk) drives are out of luck for softmodding.  At least for now.  Is there any knowledge of a solution in development?

The info's out there, so I won't write a tutorial, but here's what's needed.

1) Remove epoxy covering the connections on the TSOP chip. (360 Epoxy Removal VIDEO)

2) The chip(s) are the Maximus and Infectus passkeys. Installation diagrams are found on there pages.

3) Once that chip soldered, then the brave soul continues flashing as if working on a Hitachi 78. (iXtreme 1.2 is correct). Unfortunately, this seems to be the only method for now...

I jumped into this mod myself a little to early, made some mistakes, but I got it and it works, so a few warnings:

i) you will need to be careful with the heat gun (those suckers can heat up between 300° and 500° Celsius; the epoxy (and rest of the plastic in your dvd drive) softens at around 120° -- the electrical components (and solder!) can also be damaged if the temps get too high.

ii) The soldering you will be looking at doing is pretty tough. MUCH harder than the original xbox's mod chips; you WILL need a fine tip for your soldering iron (the 15W conical tip from Radioshack did it for me).

iii) make sure you download and look at the flat cable install option on Maximus' website; there are some pictures with a finger in there for a sense of scale (I'd have gone with the flat cable had I been forewarned)

Good luck, PM me if you need more specifics, and by all means don't rush it!
