why would you delete my post asking if the method in the noob tutorial for the benq flashing works exactly the same with the samsung drives? its a legit question because this benq method is newer and wasn't applied to the samsung flashing. i just wanted to know if the floppy boot disc with dosflash 16 on it and using the read, write, erase commands to do it all will work exactly the same with a samsung..and yes i know the common methods for samsung already listed in tutorials..but those arent what im asking about

Also , i dont see any instructions in the readme for "soft flashing the benq in dos mode using VIA + dosflash 16 in AUTOMODE" if some could give a breif explanation on how to do it i would be most greatful. TIA

Yea, read the readme? Boot to dos (via usb thumb drive, preferable) and type the correct dosflash command explained in the readme with your port. Its been posted 30x times how to find your port.

Beats me, i didnt delete it. Use some common sense. All you gotta do is boot to dos and run a command. Why do people need tutorials for that? Needing a utility to make a bootable usb, sure. But to run a dos command? C'mon guys, it shows you EXACTLY how to do it in the readme. Use your *mind* for once in your life.

I'm trying to read the firmware....but (while in DOS) after you hit "y" for yes. it shows this:0xFF......instead of 0x7F.   and it just hangs there, reguardles if the 360 is on or off.

how do I fix it?

You are using the incorrect port number...or the other controllers are interferring with the process. Disable the IDE controllers in bios, and sata if you are using a VIA card.

any confirmed flash with a ICH9?  I have a Dell Vostro 200 and using Iprep nothing in Scsi.  But I remember reading that ICH9 was supported.

Listed under IDE Based:

IntelĀ® ICH9 4 port Serial ATA Storage Controller 1 - 2920

IntelĀ® ICH9 2 port Serial ATA Storage Controller 2 - 2926

I just got a xbox from best buy lot 0739 Team FDOU and I want to try this (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Read this thread. It explains many many times why intel chipsets are in the readme but do NOT work on benq.

You will get this error:

"Benq Serial not Valid, $FF00-FFFF, missing 'Wisely Loves Lan'."

As i have stated above, this is because there is no valid serial in the benq iXtreme.  If you're spoofing to a samsung, this information should not be requested from the drive.  However, if you want your firmware to respond as close to what it should, you should do the following.

Dump your benq first.  Use your benq orig.bin with firmtool and the hacked firmware to copy your serial number.  THen use firmtool again with yoru samsung orig.bin and the hacked firmware to copy your key and version strings.

If you want, you can flash it as is, and it should work.  Whether you do the above is up to you.

Caster.

Caster420 - I've been trying to work this out but don't understand - I'm spoofing my BenQ to look like a Hitachi 59:

1 - I've got my orig.bin from my Hitachi 59
2 - I've downloaded the BenQ firmware benq-ixa.bin
3 - I've used firmtool to successfully patch my Hitachi 59 key into my benq-ixa.bin creating benq-ix.bin

I understand that bit no problem.

What I fail to understand is your post above to get the serial from my original BenQ firmware.

Surely if I do that and insert that serial into my benq-ix.bin it will show up if challenged as the wrong serial number as I should be showing my original Hitachi 59 serial number.

From all this reading - all I can ascertain is that you've either got to go without any serial in the spoofed BenQ (which is now spoofed as an Hitachi 59) or use a BenQ serial number which is equally pointless as the drive should report the Hitachi 59 serial number.

Therefore can you clear this up once and for all:

A - Is there any way of getting the Hitachi 59 serial into my spoofed BenQ firmware?

B - And assuming you can't - in your opinion what's better, a BenQ drive spoofed as an Hitachi 59 with no serial or a BenQ spoofed as a Hitachi 59 with a BenQ serial?

Anyway thanks in advance (and please people - if you don't know the answer please don't guess - this thread is becoming increasingly difficult to find the good and relevant information!).
