It has to be in relation to your hardware mod. Also, there is no 'incompatible' hardware (atleast, its pretty tough with that list of supported models in dosflash readme). Once you've successfuly cut those traces, ANY of the sata controllers listed in the dosflash readme will work on it, as its just like querying any sata flashrom (there is no benq/ms28 protection). So, i would have to say your doing something incorrectly.

But it reads the orig fw in xp and dos with any of the methods listed.
The hardware I used with the cut traces and switch wouldn't work with dosflash either.
My nforce4 reads fine with onboard or VT6421A but at the point of erasing it says "Erasing..." but does nothing then quits to the prompt saying "Wrong drive status".
Has anyone else reported successful write with the 62430CR?

Getting same message here, "Wrong Drive Status" on reads/writes/erases DOS or Windows

Drive was read using a VIA card on a Asus ICH5 mobo.  Read completed, as well as, the erase.  For some reason the user reflashed the orig.bin back without realizing the orig.bin was not complete or corrupt since Toolbox 4.5 says it's invalid.  Looking at the orig.bin with a hex editor, though, shows the key @ C030.

Any way to salvage this and would cutting the traces be of any help to reflashing this drive?  Could the key be used to spoof a different drive in this box?  Thanks in advanced.

Here is a video tutorial for those who do not wish to read smile.gif video tutorial

What happened to the original video. This you tube Video is out of sync and you can barely see the screen. I didn't finish downloading the original but the part I got to see was in sync and you could see what was happening on the screen. Plus the you tube isn't the whole video. is there a way to get the old video file that show the process from beginning to end. that's what I need I'm such a noob at this.

A little reading would have told you that th "quiet" version has a bug in it...which pretty much makes it the same as the fast version.

So do th "fast" version.

Yup,

Works nicely.. Thanks C4Eva...

Flashed with a 6421...

Had to drop to DOS to do it, and erase first otherwise I had lotsa write errors
and error 65.

But after first erasing it works like a charm..

Props to C4eva and dosflash  love.gif  love.gif  love.gif

FwToolbox is not complete, and i would not recommend it in any way shape or form for benq yet. If the drive is not recognized, then its 'partially' bricked. A user was able to fix his bricked benq by cutting the traces and wiring the switch. That will put it in recovery mode and you will be able to reflash.

Iriez you are correct, as you guys usually are!
Just rechecked the links on the traces and one had worked loose (my crap soldering).
Resoldered it, ran dosflash auto on it with my nforce 4 onboard, it erased, flashed first time.
Just had a little go on my backup of Stuntman... Superb!!

Much respect to all you guys, you make my sons lives much richer!

it's taken me about 5 hours but i've eventually dumped the firmware.

i've put the orig.bin in the Iextreme's Quiet folder and ran Make iXtreme firmware.cmd

but it says:-

The system cannot execute the specified program.

***********************************************
BenQ iXtreme v1.1 firmware created: benq-ix.bin
***********************************************

Press any key to continue . . .

it creates a file called benq-ix.bin but when i look at it with Firmware toolbox 4.0 the keys 77777777777777777777

where am I going wrong and how can I fix it?

cheers

PS i'm using XP

I followed the noob pdf guide too..having trouble..i think..

It seemed to Read in DOS perfect..rebooted, made the iXtreme FW from the orig.bin, copied that to my DOS boot disc...rebooted and did the command for erasing, worked fine, rebooted both systems and did the command for writing the new benq-ix FW to the benQ..once again, seemed to work fine! i shut down and reconnecting the drive to the xbox SATA, and booted it.
I ran an original game first, worked fine..then tried both of my backups I have burned to DVD+R DLs, which are Gears of War and BioShock. The drive just kept trying to read Gears of War forever, making the oddest noises, I had to eject it, it sounded a little crazy. Then BioShock took a little bit to load and eventually just said it was a Mixed Media Disc and couldn't do anything with it on the Xbox, so ejected that. What happened? It had to have flashed cause I did everything right and it all worked with no errors, and it still plays my originals. I believe the backups I have are patched correctly but not sure, how can I find out if they are patched while they are in burned disc form like this? I don't really know how else to test this as I have no other backups right now. Any ideas? Thanks a lot guys

-I used my Dell Dimension 2350
-SY-VIA-150 SATA PCI card from Newegg.com
-Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV/E processor on the motherboard (don't know what ICH it is?)
-Loaded provided Drivers for the SATA card that it came with and disabled the SCSI/RAID Host Controller On-board even though it has no Sata on-board.

Any help, I'm desperate, I've read all tuts and all posts EVERYWHERE and searched too..no idea anymore. I can send my orig and iX FWs if anyone needs it to try and help me. Thank you again

First things first. Check the image of your backed up game with xdvdmulleter to confirm that you have correctly extracted the neccesary stealth files (DMI/PFI/SS). If you have verified those true, then we'll worry about taking a look at your original.
