Flashing Hitachi Gdr3120l
« on: October 27, 2007, 08:23:00 PM »

This if my first post, not that much of a noob though, have modded ps2, xbox and wiis.

First of all i just bought a new premium w/hdmi, hitachi drive. From all the searching and googling ive done, i have gathered that all i need to do to flash this drive is hook it up sata cable and use maximus fx toolbox dump then flash.

But heres my question, upon all my reading ive come across talk of kernels, downgrades, upgrades which ones are vulnerable or not. But on all the FW flashing tutorials and reading it doesnt mention anything about kernels.

So my question is, whats the deal with which kernel i have in relation to flashing this hitachi drive with maximus tools?? I dont think the kernel matters does it??

Also any other pointers or safeguards as to not brick the drive in the process would be great. Thanks for your comments in advance.

which dvd drive firmware do you have? 0079xx? depend on which version of 0079 do you have, you will need a passkey to put it into modeb.

also, if you just want to flash to a hack FW, it really doesn't matter what kernel you have.

Awesome thanks, man thats the answer i was hoping for. ALso is there anyway to determine which firmware the dvd drive has besides poppin her open. Maybe man face date or sn??

One more, what does the vulnerable kernels allow you do to then, if not flash dvd firmware???

The only way to find out which version of hitachi you got is opening the console and looking at the sticker in the drive, it will say something like rom ver. and a number. If you get a 79 things get a bit more complicated but it's modable anyway.

And the kernel stuff you ask, all I know is that it should allow to run unsigned code, you know, linux and stuff.

Hi all, it seems i can't start a thread yet so i am posting here.

I am trying to flash my hitachi 78fk, I have got it working on my pc in modeb but when i load firmware toolbox V3.0 cant see the drive and version 4.5 can but it cant dump the firmware.

I have a gigabyte 965p-DS3 motherboard, i have no other rom drives plugged in and 2 sata hdds plugged in.

My motherboard seems to have 2 kinds of sata, orange ones and purple ones (not sure if this is some sort of standard) and the drive doesnt work in the orange ones but does inthe purple... is this anything?

Any input appreciated
