Flash Via Usb?
« on: October 25, 2007, 04:09:00 PM »

I have searched online for over a week now and I have not been able to find a definitive answer for this question:

Is it possible to flash the firmware on a Samsung DVD drive via USB instead of SATA?    (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

I plan on getting the latest version of Blaster 360, and I know you can do it for Hitachi drives using Blaster and the USB connectivity kit.  What really ticks me off is that the tutorial for Samsung drives on the Team Xecuter page is Textbook's tutorial, which is great, but it never mentions the Blaster hardware or doing anything via USB.  ...not to mention I can't register on their forums to ask due to server issues (LAME!!!).

My problem is that my PC is too old to handle SATA (really, my motherboard/BIOS won't even recognize a HDD that's bigger than 20 GB and problems with other hardware too).  My only other option is my laptop which does not have SATA either.

I have tried searching for this topic on these forums already and could not find anything useful.  If somebody has already properly answered this question, please give me a link.

I'm greatful for any help!

Thanks for the response.  However, that post does not say anything about using the Blaster 360 / 360 NE.

BTW: You're partially correct: I haven't searched this particular site for a week, but I have been searching in what free time I have over the course of a week.  Unfortunately, I do have to go to work, you know...

The other thing is that I was searching for stuff pertaining specifically to USB, not laptops; so, my searches did not provide the results I was looking for.  I did find a something along these lines, but that one was nearly a year old-- I figure there may have been some news since then.  I guess not.

So let me ask my question differently:  Is there anything about the capabilities of different hardware like the Blaster 360 that would make it possible to flash a Samsung drive via USB?

You will need to invest in a VIA SATA card. You cant use a USP adapter.

doesn't matter how you rephrase your question, the xecuter USB connectivity kit is the only way to flash SOME hitachi drives through USB

so it's exactly the same as flashing it with a laptop (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

and the answer is still NO
