Ms25 Works Sometimes, How To Fix?
« on: October 25, 2007, 07:13:00 AM »

I have a friend with a ms25drive. It has xtreme5.3b or c on it (whichever is the slow version) and it only reads some discs. It reads all originals and only some backups. These backups work in other boxes just fine. We did the pot tweak and it didn't fix the problem. We then bought a new laser and still the same problem. The old laser and the new laser were both originally set at 3.74 and we tweaked down to 2.8. We haven't done the rubberband trick since we never get any open tray errors. The ms25 doesn't have the switch like the hitachi does so we couldn't try glueing on a plastic piece to activate the switch sooner. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this one to work as good as all the others?

is the firmware ixtreme? if yes then maybe the ones that don't boot are not stealth backups

ixtreme doesn't let non-stealth backups to boot

The firmware is xtreme 5.3 b or c. It is not an ixtreme version. I havent tried the ixtreme. I cant run an enable0800 disc in order to disable the firmwareguard. I think the ixtreme since v1.1 will boot nonstealth, but i havent personally tried this. I dont want to order another laser and have the same thing all over again.
ADDED- the backups work on other boxes. They are made with xbox backup creator and were burned either with imgburn or clonecd (some of each). they were made on a pioneer 110d. I believe the backups are good since they work on other boxes.

Well I guess it doesn't matter anymore. The friend's house was broken into and guess what was stolen. Yes you are correct, the xbox.

Well I'm having the same exact problem.  Was using an MS25 with IXtreme 1.2c and backups worked fine.  Got 3 rings, switched to a different 360.  This one has an MS28 with IXtreme 1.2c also.  It only plays random backups.  They are all burnt correctly for 1.2c and worked perfectly in the other one.  I reflashed with the Quiet/Fast, same outcome.  Pot was already tweaked, double checked this and moved it around some with no luck.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

what media and what speed are you using to burn also what burner. Id say its media burn speed and burner from my experience.
