Anyone know what the mean by second powersupply?
Flashing the BenQ with a VIA card and DosFlash16
--------------------------------------------------
- connect a 2nd power supply unit to the BenQ, don't turn it on yet
Does this mean you can't power the dvd drive via turning on the 360 and running the sata cable to the pc? How do I connect a powersupply to the benq drive? TIA

By '2nd power supply' it means not the same power supply that is powering your PC. In the case of dosflash and benq, there is alot of turning off and on to get the flash recognized, so you'll need to power it with your xbox360's psu or a xecuter connectivity kit.

I just tried to open the bin file again with the new fwt4.5 and it said not a valid file. I also tried to read the drive and and now it cant get to read this time. Looks like i got lucky the first time detecting the drive. the drive still works fine as i can still plug it back into the 360 and it comes up with no problems. I'm just trying to get my key off of it so i can spoof a sammy i have over here. I'll keep trying.

Sweet...
I got the Asus P4C800 board with Intel 82801EB (ICH5) chipset... I should be able to read the firmware from a BenQ drive.. right? i checked the readme file...
My xbox died and it has a sammy drive in it... i am planning to swap it with the drive of new xbox... witch i don't have... yet...

Thankx
I've had two people so far with VIA and ICH5 that were able to dump w/ dosflash16 (but not with dosflash32). I have a ICH7, and I've not been able to dump in either environments.

Intel ICH9R i have this chipset
on the readme it says:
- Intel SATA Controller IDE (ICH9)
- Intel SATA Controller IDE (ICH9M)
Im assuming this means i would need to buy one of the VIA sata controllers?
Yes, but as of right now, I've not seen any success with ICH7 or higher with via.

I have the Via 6421 PCi card. When running in Windows, I double click dosflash32 but nothing never happens and the program never opens.
I can see it in task manager running as a process. So I end the task after about 3 minutes and run it again but this time I tell it to not to run the mkt command and the program opens right up. The benq drive is listed but it does not read.
So basically my question is, why would the program not run when sending the commands and when I don't it opens immediately. I have deleted the driver in windows per suggestions in this post.
I am going to try to use dosflash and use dos. I ran MSInfo32 and this is what I got.

I am not sure what the port number is. The readme states"for the 6421 the 1st port is internal SATA, 2nd is external SATA and 3rd is internal IDE".
So what would I replace port 7000 with? Example: DosFlash w 7000 1 a0 1 4 a:\ixtreme.bin 0
Iprep shows the following info for my VT6421 controller card: DevID 11063249 I/O: C400CC00
Any info is highly appreciated.
Thanks
Lucho
Its C400

WARNING!!!
The DosFlash release on www.xbox-scene is NOT the final one! You should download it at xbins or on the original rapidshare link Schtrom mentioned at XBH! This is no joke!
Schtrom has done some additions to the final release in comparison to the release you can download here. You can see if you have the right one by looking into the folder DosFlash32, if the DosFlash32_EnableDrives.exe is missing you have the right release.
I hope XBS will fix this and use the correct release soon, otherwise it would get very hard to track errors down!!!
The one in x-s was the version we were testing, I had uploaded it not knowing schtrom added a extra param before release. In regards to compatibility they are exactly the same. The only thing thats different is the ATAPI device reset before and after flashing 0 = no, 1 = yes (0 at the end of the cmd line) and the extra 'enabler' exe for 32. I have updated the x-s hosted dosflash to the correct version.
