Hi all...

Basically, i had a sammy drive in my old xbox, but got the 3 red lights of death.

Ive now bought a new xbox, that happens to have a Hitachi 3120L drive in it....

I found the following tutorial on how to flash the firmware for this drive:

So ive downloaded the SLAX v.2, burnt to cd and booted with it... and it appears to see the drive... I then get the 'spinning up disc' message which it is sposed to stay at for a while... and then it carries on to another screen.

However, i get a 'not responding' message after the 'spinning up disc' message, hence it tries the spinning up disc thing again, but still comes back with not responding.

any ideas on what i need to do to fix this? i have heard that you need to press the eject button a few times whilst it says 'spinning up disc'... is this true?

also, that tutorial is for the 3120L 0078fk drive... is that what mine is? i know its a 3120L, so does that automatically mean its a 3120L 0078fk drive?

Take a look at the sticker on the dvd drive, it will say what version it is on there.

Otherwise it could be a number of factors, including an incompatible Sata interface, wrong port beign used on a pci sata card (mine only works on 1 of the 3 ports on it), timing on the power up, cable too long, etc etc.

when it says spinning up are you hitting eject on the 360? and use slax 2.1 cd also just check on top of drive will say what version it is. all pretty much to get in mode b are the same so for this part doesnt really matter unless drive is a 79

ok awesome... i know the SATA port's compatible as have flashed many drives using it... also with the same lead etc etc... havent been pressing eject tho, would that possibly make it work?

ps, im not with the xbox at the moment, hence why im trying to get ideas before i try and do anything with it

i had same problem mate just press eject

i had same problem mate just press eject and the program will continue to run and complete. it will also auto eject, leave the tray ejected until program finishes and it will be fine.
