Bricked 78fl Replacing With 78fk
« on: October 13, 2007, 08:22:00 PM »

i have bricked an 79FL drive (nfi how it happened as the flash went smooth)
now the drive doesnt eject on boot and i get an E64 error. I have a 79FK(stock-unhacked)

i do have a backup of the FL's key. to flash the FK drive, would it be as simple as placing the FL's original .bin file into maximus's fw toolbox?

any assistance would be much appreciated..

btw i used a passkey to get both drives into modeb

EDIT: both drives are 79's

If you got far enough into flashing to get the keys for the drive then i would reccomend buying another one because the cost to repair those bricked drives is pretty high, are you sure its bricked, absolutely sure.

i've just realised what i did to brick it. i used the wrong fw =\ instead of a 79 fw i stupidly used a 78

reading up on some forum threads across the board, that would be a bricked drive wouldnt it? i have flashed quite a few 360's just this was my first hitachi 79.. im not looking at repairing it.. im looking at replacing the 79FL with an 79FK

Have you tried getting drive in mode B again with slax 2.1 disc?
I had a similiar problem when pc crashed during flash drive wouldnt eject but was still able to get it into mode B and flash it again and worked fine after that.

i cant seem to get it to modeb again. soldered the passkey onto it again (cleaner job than the first) and now the passkey keeps flashing every few seconds whilst the 360 is on

then yes you are bricked either find someone with a programmer or buy a new drive from ebay since you have your key shouldnt be a problem
