Unsuccessful Mod Help
« on: October 13, 2007, 03:50:00 PM »

I had a friends 78 drive I modded successfully back in May before the Hitachi Ixtreme FW was out, and he got it back to me so I could mod it to Ixtreme and he could play online.

I bricked the drive using an SIIG card.

So I sent off for a replacement drive on ebay from Japan (I believe) and got it within 2 weeks.  This drive is a Hitachi 47DJ I attempted to spoof with the original key to the 78 using FW Toolbox.  I tried flashing this with a VIA chipset -- BRICKED.

I sent off for yet another replacement drive and got it also within 2 weeks and have now attempted to flash with an nforce chipset.  Again I got a Hitachi 47DJ and again I tried to flash with FW Toolbox -- as I type this now my PC has hung so I am believing that I have bricked a 3rd drive.

I have flashed several drives before and reflashed said drives successfully but am at a loss as to what I am doing wrong.

Does anyone know of a modder in Houston or relatively close so that I can get these drives (ALL) unbricked?  Or can anyone tell me how I might be able to unbrick them short of buying my own programmer for 400+ bux.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Some 47DJ drives are picky as hell. I had one last week that for the hell of me wouldnt flash at all. it finally flashed after I removed everything from MB except the C drive and the 360 drive. Each time it kept locking up my pc as well but never bricked. Maybe try that next time if there is a next time.

Dont use 360fwtb except for v78 and v79 drives.  Use the batch files.

Caster I would try this in the future -- and wanted to at the time as well but was at a loss when trying to find the proper command for flashing the final.bin fw from the original drive to the new drive.

If I could get the syntax for this if I resolve my other issue will gladly try it again.  Just to know what I am doing wrong because I know I have been successful at flashing hitachis before and I cannot believe I am this inept all of a sudden.

But it is possible ...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
