Is your computer using XP? Home or Pro? I'm using XP Home and it couldn't be more simple, make sure you read Xport documentation with the emulator you are using.

These are more for XBMC I think but with the added documentation of any xport read me for emulators that support smb you should be able to do this. I used Xport documentation to find exactly how to configure the ini's but the rest I honestly just guess worked and got it going in no time so I don't know if these will help you out or not.

Sorry, Nintendo Ds was distracting me. If you're contempt with relax sharing that's fine but I see no point it if you can use samba. I can still help you with this if you need it.

Just send me a PM if you do need the help, that's the best way to get my attention

Please do post your .ini settings for SMB sharing if you get it to work.

If I can get it working on my machines, I'll write up another tutorial and throw it online.  (I wrote the one on relax)

I'd like to see if there are compatibility differences between Relax and SMB in pcsxbox, but I've never gotten SMB working on any emulator.  SMB in XMBC works a treat though.

LOCAL_IP=192.168.x.x
SUBNET_MASK=255.255.255.x
GATEWAY_IP=192.168.x.x
smbshare=SMB://MSHOME//MY LAST NAME//SHAREDDOCs
smb_nameserver=192.168.1.47

This, with the exception of the bold for my privacy, and the Xs,is exactly how all my xport emulators are set up. The local IP is what I set my xbox to, I believe XBMC can do this for you and I know Avalaunch can. Smb nameserver is the I.P. of my Computer, if you need to know how to get that, go to run, type CMD and then in the new window type IPCONFIG. For the smbshare line, in that format it goes "smb", the name of my Workgroup, the name of my computer and then the Shareddocs is a folder you can access from my network places where I put everything I want to share.

To configure all of this stuff on your computer, in xp home and probably others, go to my network places and click here

Its not really necessary (just realized this after testing) but I made a low level account on my machine named xbox and made its password xbox (obviously my password is a bit different than that).  I then shared out my relevant folders and put this in my neogenesis.ini:

LOCAL_IP=192.168.1.101     *Xbox's IP
SUBNET_MASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY_IP=192.168.1.1   *My router's IP, is probably necessary for netplay
smbshare=smb://xbox:[email protected]/Gaming/Emulation/Console/Sega Genesis/Roms/   *account:accountpassord@PC IP/Share name
smb_nameserver=192.168.1.100  *Pc IP

If you don't want to make that account, you can skip that part and do this:

LOCAL_IP=192.168.1.101     *Xbox's IP
SUBNET_MASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY_IP=192.168.1.1   *My router's IP, is probably necessary for netplay
smbshare=smb://192.168.1.100/Gaming/Emulation/Console/Sega Genesis/Roms/   *PC IP/Share name
smb_nameserver=192.168.1.100  *Pc IP

Basically its the same thing minus the account name and password.  The way I figured all this out is I realized its exactly the same thing as XBMC.  I use my IP address and share names to setup smb shares on it, so this is really no different, just a few extra parameters.  Hope that helps people.

**PS don't forget, if you have a rom folder mapped out that your Emu starts off in,  you have to press Y a few times to go back to the root drive selection.  You'll then see all of your xbox partitions and SMB:\ at the bottom.  Select it and if everything is setup correctly, it'll jump right into your share.
