I don't think N64 emulation sucks.
I don't think N64 emulation sucks.. I find it remarkable. I remember using Ultra-HLE when it first came around, I just happened to have a Voodoo 3 graphics card at that time. Since then there's been a lot of advancements in the 64 emulation, forward and side-ways with new emulators. PC's are becoming strong enough to handle them and more and more game are becoming compabitle.
My problem isn't with the state of n64 emulation. My problem is with the word perfect. People asking
"Why isn't n64 emulation perfect when Snes emulation is perfect."
People are asking for perfection and then they reveal their standard for perfection is anything but. Snes is remarkable emulation. Between Zsnes and Snes9x I think snes emulation is among the best of any console, mostly because both these emulators are so old and polished. But it still isn't perfect. It might feel perfect, it might look it, it might sound it but in many games something in the background isn't going
exactly the way it would in a real cartridge/console setup. Maybe this will cause a sound to have a small unnoticable delay, or cause a sprite to have a slightly off hue, cause a small bit of unnatural slowdown OR not reproduce a small bit of natural slowdown. Maybe it's not something we'll see at all. Are these differences important to most people, isn't the emulation good enough for us on most of our games? Between maybe and mostly yes. So what do these differences matter? They disqualify the emulation from perfection. Would Zsnes update if it were perfect?
N64 is even further from perfect and it's got a long way to go, so long it may never happen, that's just the way it is.
So why am I being so anal about this? It's this low standard people have when they throw around the word perfect that dellusions other people into thinking several things. They might think "My PC doesn't run them perfect but this guy says they should, maybe I need to go spend 1000 dollars in PC upgrades. Hmm, still not quite working like it does on my cart, must need to adjust all these plugins. Hmm, still not quite working like it does on my cart, must have a faulty download... must have a bad rom... must have must have must have."
Worse, they might think "well NES is absolutely perfect... SNES is absolutely perfect... N64 is absolutely perfect ... my pc is newer than all these things.... my pc is newer than gamecube... WHY ISN'T GAMECUBE EMULATION PERFECTED YET?! My xbox has better graphics than gamecube so it must be able to run gamecube games, it's not a problem with the hardware it's just the programmers suck."
Conclusion, good enough for you doesn't mean it's perfect. Saying it is perfect can and does influence people into the wrong train of thought. This spreads like wild fire. We end up with some one saying

Well there must be a way to run N64 games if the xbox can run... xbox games!
and it drives people like me into posting boring boring boring messages like this.
