Another Ms28 Problem
« on: October 05, 2007, 01:39:00 PM »

im flashing an ms28 using iprep and the via 6421 pci card. i prepped my usb drive and booted to it. turned the xbox on, typed in the idump command and got a dump of the fw. i booted to windows to check it, and orig and hacked have matching (unique) keys. i booted back to my usb drive and typed the iflash command. the timing trick worked first time and flashing started, but stopped on the 3rd bank (bank 02) at 97%. now i cant seem to access the drive at all. i have tried using mtkflash e, the iflash command, manually using mtkflash w /m hacked.bin (which i put a copy of in the root of the usb drive). i have tried all timings from 3 seconds up to 15 and it just sits at the line "port : dfa0 master/slave : a0" no matter what i do (mtkflash, iflash etc).

im pretty sure i didnt do anything wrong. the timing trick for read and write both worked the first time, its just that it didnt finish writing. now i cant get the timing trick to work again to erase it/try to write it again.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try unplugging everything from your mothorboard apart from your sata when flashing, its possible that something is interfering with the flash, id possibly update the motherboard bios if you dont have the latest.

Is your drive still showing as Xtreme Pri Master??  When you power off the 360 and select Pri Master are you using the Eject to power on after 10 seconds?

I think the MS28 drives are fairly hard to brick so i wouldnt panic just yet

yeah all my other devices are totally unplugged. it still shows as xtreme on pri master, and i have been using the power button the whole time. the only time i hit eject so far was to test if it even responded (wont open but i think it powers the machine up so ill give it a try). also, for reference, im using the internal sata on the pci card.

thanks

I had same problem with a bad floppy your drive is bricked (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) sorry I had to buy a new one you should still have your key so you can still flash new one. (I hope you made a copy of key before you redid iprep)

im not ready/willing to give up hope (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif)

i read an old post at xbh that status = 0 means i was too slow on the timing trick, and status = 80 means i was too fast. im gonna keep trying with that in mind (those are the only 2 errors i am getting). just wondering if anyone knows if it really makes a difference to turn the 360 on at first with the sata unplugged/plugged in? i have seen tutorials both ways. also, do i have to reboot from the usb drive when it fails, or can i just keep trying from the command prompt after i hit escape when i miss the timing?

ok new update. got it working  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) i kept on trying from the command prompt after hitting esc, no reboots, never unplugged the sata from the 360. the timing was instant, no counting. i have read that a few times now, and i had to try it about 6 times to get it but it worked.

i feel like a hero right now  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)
