Benq To Ms25 Help Requested
« on: October 04, 2007, 02:14:00 PM »

Ok, so I've been doing my homework and reading for the last couple weeks, and I'm having some issues trying to spoof an ms25. I have successfully gotten the key from my BenQ, fed it into the BenQ/Ixtreme/Samsung generation website and have my firmware. But now I'm having problems with Iprep and flashing it over to the samsung.

When I boot into DOS with my USB flashdrive, and type iFlash <serial #>, I'm presented with 4 drive options.

1. ICH5 Pri Master
2. ICH5 Pri Slave
3. XTREME Pri Master
4. XTREME Pri Slave.

In Textbook's tutorial he only shows one drive being available (and I have all my drives unplugged). When I try to dump the fw (not sure this is possible with a "virgin" drive?), it just hangs and I have to escape out after a couple mins.

Here's my SATA info:

Name   IntelĀ® 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers
Manufacturer   Intel
Status   OK
PNP Device ID   PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D1&SUBSYS_42468086&REV_02\3&267A616A&0&FA
I/O Port   0x0000EC00-0x0000EC07
I/O Port   0x0000E800-0x0000E803
I/O Port   0x0000E400-0x0000E407
I/O Port   0x0000E000-0x0000E003
I/O Port   0x0000DC00-0x0000DC0F
IRQ Channel   IRQ 18
Driver   h:\windows\system32\drivers\pciide.sys (5.1.2600.0 (XPClient.010817-1148), 3.25 KB (3,328 bytes), 8/23/2001 6:00 AM)

Searching has brought up that my chipset (Intel ICH5) is compatible with the ms25, so this should be ok. I've even read and hex edited MTKFlash with the drive info, and still no better. I'm unsure about trying to write the firmware and bricking the drive.

Any ideas? Any more info I can add? The sticker on the ms25 drive I bought indeed states it's an ms25, and not a 28 like some people have had problems with.

Or am I just being a pussy and need to try to flash the XTREME Pri Master and see what happens?

Well, I did it, and nothing. It just hung and after a few minutes I had to hit escape to exit. Didn't flash and only plays dvd's. I still have the key from the benq of course, so no harm I guess.

I'm now thinking that this isn't the new ms25 that was advertised on ebay, and despite the sticker saying ms25, has either been flashed already or is an ms28. I get my verbatim dvd's today, so I guess I will make a 0800 disk and try that first.

Probably as you said, it already has MS28 firmware on it.  I bought from Ebay and that was what I discovered as well.  I ordered a VIA card from NewEgg for $20 shipped and problem solved, but alas it cost me an extra $20.  However, the seller did refund $6 after I complained.  You always roll the dice with this kind of stuff.

Yeah, I'm gonna be pissed if I have to order a VIA card now. I've already contacted the seller, I better get something back for this.

If I were a seller, I think I'd 0800 these drives and advertise it that way.  Would add value and make things easier for everyone.

If it has Xtreme/iXtreme firmware on it, the enable 0800 disc will work and you do not need a VIA chipset.  I dont see why someone would flash it with stock ms28 firmware.

Caster.

We will find out soon. UPS has my verbatim's and in enroute right now. Hate to waste an expensive disk on this, but better than having to buy a VIA.

Can anyone confirm my chipset is fine for a ms25? Everything I've read seems to say so, but wouldn't mind any confirmation.
