FirmGuard disable method 1 – 0800 Disc

1. You need to disable FirmGuard. Burn the activate.iso to a DVD+R DL using IMGBurn or CloneCD.
2. Boot your PC to DOS; leave the 360 powered off, but with both power and video cables connected. The drive should be hooked up to your SATA port.
3. When you reach the DOS command prompt, power on your Xbox 360, hit the eject button, and insert your 0800 disc. Let it spin up and read the disc. It usually takes a good 10 to 20 seconds. If you listen carefully, you can hear the drive laser shift and when you hear no more sounds except for the constant spinning disc, the disc has done the job.
4. Eject the drive back open and take out the 0800 disc.
5. FirmGuard should now be disabled and you should be able to read and write to the drive just like it was a normal MS25 drive.

(The above is from my buddy Textbooks great tutorial.)

From the pics i found (assuming its the same card), it has a Silicon Image chipset. This will not help you any with the bad flash method.

I did this but my dvd drive seemed to make no different noise after 40 or so seconds, I think my DVD+R disc I burned may have been burned wrong because I got errors on my burn about some L0 sector and L1 sector....I have no idea what this is but I will soon try to burn another +R LD differently.
And one more thing The dos command prompt is which screen exactly? when you have to type C: to enter your C drive? thanks for the reply.

my card is: http://www.vantecusa.com/images/pcicard-esata.jpg
Model: UGT-ST300

Funkymunky

You have to burn the 0800 to a DVD+R DL NOT a single layer disk

Burn the activate.iso to a DVD+R DL using IMGBurn or CloneCD.

OK I re-read some of your posts, and I notice that you did burn the to a DL disk...a tdk one.

You may want to try buying verbatim disks and re-doing it. Sometimes the drives get really finiky about the media it see's. Verbatim has the highest success rate.

Also when burning it make sure you put in the correct layer break, that may also be your issue.

Download imgburn and use this tutorial on how to change the layer break. It's dvddycrypter but it is basically the same program.

Thanks a bunch for this information Avelanchefan, I did not set my layerbreak so I believe this could very well be where I have been going wrong. I will try and burn another DL +R TDK if it still won't work I will try some Varbatims and post my experiences. Thanks again pal.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Edit: I have a quick question. For his image.dvd he tells us to open so we can get the layerbreak # is that a game image, or where would one find this?

Activate.iso doesnt require a specific layerbreak.  AFAIK, just load the iso and burn.  Nothing should be written to the second layer of the disc.

Thanks for clearing this up before I wasted another +R DL  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  I burned normally when burning the disc. Also maybe I should have set bitsetting? if I need to then what should I set that to DVD-ROM?

user specified layer break position is such that L0 < L1 - THIS IS NOT ALLOWED
image size 129,824
user specified L0 sectors 1,913,760
calculated L1 sectors 4,293,183,360
