Help With Ms25, Via Vt6421
« on: September 27, 2007, 01:23:00 AM »

Ok well maybe somebody can help me out. I have two 6421a Raid cards. 3 pc's in all, 2 older non sata MB. 1 with onboard sata "Intel® 82801FB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2651" that will not work for some reason even when hex-edited w/XBM. The VIA sata card when installed on this PC wont do anything but crash on bootup. In both older PC's the sata cards seem to work fine, but will not be recognized at all when i give the "mtkflash r /m org.bin" or "mtkflash r /m /sata org.bin" or "samread ******* *****". And yes I've also tried to custom hexedit with XBM.This happens even with everything unpluged, disabled or whatever. Also tried every pci slot in each PC. Not sure how anyone got this card to work since it needs to be hexedited to work. The cards work fine in Windows with VIA driver 5.2c. Can read a sata drive with no problem in Windows.Maybe i need to learn how to manually hexedit mtkflash, cause XBM isnt workn for me. From what i understand the nonraid card "via6421L" will work without all this hassle, but the same exact things happen with that card. I got the "VIA VT6421A" "SYBA-VIA-150" from NEWEGG. I got the "VIA VT6421L" from Tekgems. I'm almost at the point of giving up and pulling the TRIGGER. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

I Had this problem, same chipset (Think it's the same card, I used the internal connector, the external one didnt work for me).  if you've hexedit mktflash ok.  Then when booting up (I use a floppy disk) you should have a menu appear on which interface to use to flash ie...
1. IDE
2. IDE
3. Xtreme

If you dont get the menu, attach an IDE CDROM cable or enable at least one IDE channel on your motherboard and make sure a CDROM is detectable by the motherboard.

MKTFLASH doesnt seem to work if there are no IDE CDROMS attached to the PC.

Another tip, order to flash (aleast on MS28's, not sure about MS25's)

(1) Make sure XBOX is on before switching PC ON
(2) SWITCH YOUR PC ON
(3) When you do get to the menu STOP
(4) SWITCH OFF YOUR XBOX
(5) Press the button for the Xtreme option from the menu
(6) COUNT TO 10 SLOWLY
(7) SWITCH YOUR XBOX ON

IT SHOULD NOW CONNECT and YOU CAN DUMP AND FLASH

Hope this helps,

First go at flashing xboxs took me 4 hours to figure out!, after that every one 20 secs max!
