Dump and Flash the BenQ VAD6038 drive

So, I'm assuming people have tried using an Intel ICH9 SATA chipset and it has failed? Is there any harm in trying?

« Reply #317 on: March 09, 2008, 01:29:00 AM »

Hi.

I have one pc with intel ich5 sata chipset and with one pci sata card with via 6421l chipset.

When i try to flash the benq drive it bring me a lot of write errors and i must unplugged all my devices(Ide atapi & sat) that i have connected to my pc so the write procedure didn't bring me write errors.
This i want to ask is if i DON'T unplugged my others devices and dimply disable them by motherboard bios menu is work the dosflash 1.3beta or dosflash 1.4beta in auto mode without the write errors.
If anyone do that and work just fine please tell me.

A lot of thanks.

I would have thought that disabling in the BIOS is the best option, not to mention easier.

Are you using dosflash16 from direct boot into DOS or are you using under a DOS window?

I would disable the ICH5 within the BIOS ann boot from DOS.

Have you tried Iprep to prepare a USB flash drive and boot from that?

I try directly to dos and not with under dos window.
iprep has a little prob at the benq drives.
If i unpluged all the devices directly dos the write procedure done without probs but i don't try it with simply disable all devices from motherboard bios menu. Has anyone that has the same write problems try simply disable all the devices from motherboard bios menu? If it did then how the write procedure go?

Iprep works fine with Benq's when using a VIA 6421 SATA contoller.

Sometimes it seems Iprep will pick up the wrong port number to use - as it did with me.

All you need to do after using Iprep to prepare your USB flash drive is to amend 'dben', 'rben' and 'fben' to use the correct port number - that's what I did.

If you are using an ICH5 SATA controller AND a VIA 6421 SATA controller at the same time, then Iprep is probably picking up on a port number from the ICH5 controller, even though you have disconnected the devices from this controller.

So if you disable the ICH5 contoller in the BIOS, connect the Benq to the VIA card and then run Iprep, just check using msinfo32.exe that Iprep is still using the correct port number - if not then just amend the batch files.

You got it i have intel ich5 chipset. And how i configure iprep so it did use the right port for flashing my benq drive without disconnect every time my devices on my pc. Only with disable all devices from motherboard bios menu.
I think iprpep 101 v 006 it take the correct port of my pci via sata card because i choose the pci card on the iprep menu and then i press prepare destination

Iprep selected the VIA SATA card for me, but it STILL got the port number wrong for me. It picked up the port number from the on-board VIA IDE.

So, as I said - just run msinfo32.exe and check the 1st address of your VIA SATA is what Iprep is using in 'dben', 'rben' and 'fben'. If it hasn't then just edit the batch files.

Also, make sure you have connected the SATA cable to correct port on the card. This 'should' be the internal port closest to the front of the PC - basically on the back of the card pointing in.

If you manage to read the firmware without any problems then you should get a screen with 'success' written in green text along with your drive key and a message saying 'now ready to run fben 1234567 12345'

I did!  smile.gif

It's here -

You will also notice that I didn't use the 360 to power the drive during flashing.

here's my little VAD6038 story:
---
BenQ VAD6038 (x360 Arcade)
VIA VT6421L (with latest via drivers; v560a; reporting as 3249)
(Intel D201GLY2A mainboard)
Dosflash16 v1.4 beta
iXtreme 1.41 8x
---
dumping the fw with "dosflash r xxxx 1 a0 1 4 x:\orig.bin 0" worked just fine, but as i tried the erase command "dosflash e xxxx 1 a0 1 4 D8 0" i got an error and the 360 was showing E64 dvd drive error :s
still tried to flash it using "dosflash w xxxx 1 a0 1 4 x:\ix14.bin 0" but got lots of errors on Bank 4.
after a little research i noticed that someone is recommending C7 instead of D8 at the erase command. that did the trick and the erase worked just fine and it sucessfully flashed the new fw without any errors ;D

Ok now I am every sorry that these are suck nooby questions but I have a BenQ dvd drive I have a firmware error code so I decided I will mod it. i just need to know what I need, what I need to do, and basically everything else in between. Ok so its a lot but I figured if anywhere would know it would be here  biggrin.gif  I am good on a soldering iron and have experience in everything 360 besides modchips and F/W. Any bit of help would be greatly appreciated.
